Toyota lights on your TJ! Cheap, quality LED alternative

My knockoffs are brutal too. I have JW Speakers on my TJ and there is an ocean of difference in the knockoffs and JWs.

Agree. I've seen both in person and they don't even compare.

Most times .. cheap (as in poorly made, not necessarily related to the cost) items cost you more in the long run - if not in money for replacements, atleast in quality of life. That ridiculously long knockoff light thread has a bit of ownership bias and echo chamber thing going on. I would take a good set of well adjusted halogens over those knockoffs any day.

If anyone is looking for a nice alternative to LEDs and is considering the h4 route, Toyota sells a complete h4 conversion kit directly from the dealer. Part number 81110-60P70. It comes with a very nice harness with weather pack fuse holders and room for a spare fuse within the weather pack. A bag a zip ties, dielectric grease, instructions and an apology letter from Toyota saying they are sorry the crap sealed beams you thought you ordered are being replaced with these brighter h4 conversion beams. All this for the low price of $64 usd shipped to your door. My local dealer had it in stock for $58 but Ihad already ordered from their online site. This is cheaper than the hella ecodes which are typically $80 for just housings. These Koitos housings are suppose to have a better pattern as well.

I just stumbled upon this part number going down an h4 conversion black hole, finding a thread on ih8mud linked here with some nice beam pattern photos. https://forum.ih8mud.com/threads/fj40-head-light-upgrade-led-bulbs.1173612/page-3

Daniel Stern also sells these koito housings on his site for $90 and claims he likes pattern as much as Cibies e ecodes which are more expensive and harder to find. https://www.danielsternlighting.com/products/products.html

I can't believe you get all this for the price and quality.

I will try and post some light pattern photos tonight. Seams like a nice cheap alternative to led lights. I like the original look of the h4s vs the LEDs personally on the TJ. I currently have hella ecodes but have never been satisfied with the beam pattern though they are better than stock. I just wanted to pass what seems like a nice conversion kit, along to others.

Where did you buy the kit?

I have a set of the lenses, 55/65 & 80/100 bulbs in a box in my parts bin. I switched away from them only because of the temperature of the H4 bulbs. Otherwise, I was very happy with the Koito kit. The pattern was great but I really prefer the hyper white 5000k and though you can find hyper white H4’s the colored bulbs degrade output.. Switched to the Holly Retro Bright LED And have zero complaints (now that the price-pain is a distant memory).

Where did you find 5000k H4s? I have only seen 6000k, which don't work for me.

Nope never found an H4 that mimicked the 5000k that wasn’t going to degrade the projection, so I ran the Hella 100/80s which are a 3700k.

The Holley Retro-Bright LEDs are a cool kit. They are polycarbonate lenses that look just like H4’s… no Transformer looking lenses. They are available in either 3700k or 5000k LEDs. You get a great lens pattern, LED technology, 5000k and a neat period correct look. Love them.

Koito 100/80 H4’’s on the passenger side and the Holley Retro Bright LED in 5000k on the drivers side…

Gotcha. I thought that you HAD found some. I'm running the 100/ 80s in mine, too. I like the Holly Retro-Brights, but can't afford them.

I finally found the Toyota Light kit for a decent price. Some dealers said it was no longer available and others wanted as much as over $70 just for shipping. I found it on Toyota Parts Overstock for $42 and $16 shipping, I hope it is a legit site and the order goes through without any issues. The lights I have now REALLY suck so I am really looking forward to having some normal headlights. Thank you Longwhitejeep!

I just walked into my local Toyota dealership and ordered it. They called me when it came in and I picked it up. No fuss or worries, no shipping, and I know it's legit.

Yeah, probably the better way to do it, and I would have if they were open. But you know how it is, I just wanted to get it ordered and didn't want to wait until Monday. Lol, How much was it through your dealer?

If I remember correctly, it was about $60.

I found out that Toyota Parts Overstock is part of the Lakeland Toyota Dealership in Florida, so I know it is a legit site. I feel I did pretty well at $58 out the door considering several "Dealer Sites" wanted over $70 just to ship the part. Some said the part was no longer available and eBay showed none available. If I didn't find a reasonable deal online I would have gone to my local dealership, they would have probably needed to order it as well so it would have probably taken about the same time. I am in no real hurry, I have had my Jeep for two years now and have disliked my headlights from the beginning.
