hi all. started to hear a noise while slowing to stop. coming from the passanger rear, sounds like a rubbing while spinning, it is not a screeching or metalic sound. It gets louder when applying brakes. It still happens even when not touching the brake. I do not see any liquid on rim or tire area. I have drum rear brakes. My question is if it is the brakes, do rear brakes still make a noise even when you do not apply the brake? Any other thoughts on what it could be?

Pull the drum off and see what it looks like inside. Could be a spring broke and shoe is dragging or you have some foreign material in it.

Thank you. Going to check it out this weekend. Probably give her new shoes and hardware. Is it a good idea to replace the wheel cylinder as well? 85,000 miles

It can't hurt but if it's not leaking and the pin moves freely prob not necessary.

You could also check your parking brake cable. It may be frozen on that side and holding your brake partially on. Or it could just be gravel or road grime. Pulling the drum will help with that too.

Just to update what was going on.
turns out I have pads in the back. The brake pad had shiny scrapes on it and auto store guy said caliper locked up. I had rotors turned, both sides with re-new calipers and new pads. So far so good 😊
Kinda anxious because my other half did not put grease on the caliper bolts. The organic grease from brakes was put on the caliper slides, brake mounts, but no other grease on the caliper bolts.

Well I feel a bit sheepish. I wasn’t paying attention to the year of your vehicle. I had forgotten the 05 had discs on the rear. Thanks for the update.

No not at all. I had said shoes in my original post, because I had thought that. I swore in my previous '05 they were shoes in the rear.
I posted the final outcome in case anyone comes searching for same issue.
