Full MORyde kit or upgraded hinges for 33s?

Getting sick of my swing-out spare carrier very quickly, definitely the biggest regret of my build so far so I really don’t want to keep it around too long.
I read that @Jerry Bransford had his OE mount crack after a short time of carrying a 33” and I’ll take his word on it that he had the snubbers set good so I do want something stronger than the OE carrier but I’m not sure I wanna spend the $650CAD + mount for the full Morryde kit.
For a 33x10.5 with 15x8 steely (I do plan on going to aluminum wheels) should I be going with the full Morryde kit or would I be fine just getting the upgraded hinges?
No plans on going up to 35s.
Thanks!

Following this, I'm in a similar predicament both with tire size and living in Canada. Barnes4WD sells a beefier hinge for a decent price, and is way cheaper than the Morryde kit. Jeep came with a 33/10.5R15 on a steel rim and so far it hasn't killed my tailgate.. Yet...

I was getting ready to order a tire carrier... However, found a couple of threads of guys who said they ran 35s on their stock carrier, ONLY if the tire is being supported by the bumper. I am waiting on the rubber piece extensions. But will be going this route as there is a very very small gap between my 35 and bumper, jeep has a 1.25" body lift. In the meantime, while I figure out what bumper I want to go with, I will just shim a piece of wood between the tire and bumper. Will report back after my next wheeling trip, if I have issues or not, once I get my locker situation sorted!

edit: You will also have to figure out a way to stop the tire from swinging and crushing your taillight. At least with a 35.

I spaced out the snubbers and that took most of the rattling I had when going over rough roads. Next step might be adding some thicker rubber to the bottom drivers side of the tailgate to support and mitigate some of the tailgate flex that causes it to rattle.

Same thing...my TJ came with a classic Warn bumper with a swing out carrier. I loved it at first but hate wrastlin with it all the time. Morryde is just so damn expensive. I was able to buy an open box somewhere for my wifes JK for $150.

PS That and I don't have the OEM carrier to bolt back on.

I run a moryde kit on mine with 35’s, I modified a stock mount to move the tire up. This allowed me not to use the brackets that came with the kit which bring the tire up but also out away from the tailgate. I have not had any problems in the year I’ve had it on.

I shelled out the $$ for the entire Morryde kit early this year. I'm using 33x12.5 on OEM alloy wheels. So far so good; I'm hoping for the buy-once, cry-once experience and never to worry about it again.

8 years with a 35" spare/steel wheel and stock hinges. Taking the weight off the hinges is the key. 🤫

Ya I’ve come across your setup a couple of times now, does that make it a bit of a pain to open and close? To really take any weight off the hinges you’d almost have to give it a bit of a lift onto that support wouldn’t you?

I went this route after I noticed my 33x12.50 bending/flexing my tailgate. They claim it's good for up to 35s.

Originally I only bought the hinge and used the stock mount, but with the stiffness of the new hinge, the stock mount cracked within a few days. My only complaint is that it is a little heavy.

Ya I’m on and off considering the RR Spartacus setup but from what I’ve read the design of it pushes the tire quite a bit away from the tailgate?
It seems the guys on here that do run it are happy with it but there’s also a lot of guys that say it’s a crappy design.

Opens and closes fine. The outer edge of the tire sits higher, so it slides closed easily. My current Jeep's tailgate hinges work good as new after 6 years with a similar setup and 35" spare.
p.s. I sometimes have added weight on it too.

The spartacus mount sits the tire at an angle. I don't like that, so I went with the mount that keeps the tire vertical. I don't think it pushed it out any further than the stock mount. If it did, it's just a little.

I used just the Moryde hinges for a 33x12.5r15. It was ok. I thought it needed the addition of the triangular brace, so I got one of those too.

Weight is an issue too...I wish someone would make this in Aluminum.

If I've got to spend $300 to $600 at least make it light weight!

Really need to buy a lathe and a mill.

I wonder if I could get a hitch attachment that could act as a support.
If I went your route I could even do that until I could afford the full Morryde kit.
I don’t do rock crawling anyways but it seems to me that if you were climbing up at all it would still put the stress on the tailgate wouldn’t it?

There's always the more budget friendly at-home weight loss option ;)
