We all left. His group was behind us. A built jk on 40 and a similarly built s10. The guy thought they were infront so my guess is he did the bypass at WH1 when they were climbing it.

I didn't get any photos of my jeep but it performed great.

When going up winch hill 2 we let a JLU pass us since he was clearly trying to get past. He struggled a bit getting up one section and we heard a loud pop. A few seconds later his wheel came off but that didn't stop him from continuing to try. He was adamant he didn't want our help so we squeezed by and left him. His group was behind us so hopefully they got him off the trail. I can't imagine they'll get the jeep off without parts given the location.

It looked like it was going to be a tough recovery. I'm sure it'll be a good story. I have a feeling they parked it overnight and got parts. I can't imagine strapping a branch to the front and dragging it out.

Do you know if it had stock inner axles?

Update on JL broken on Fordyce

Thanks for offering assistance in helping me out!! I always am willing and able to help out on the trail - a karma thing, but at the time I thought it was catastrophic and not a lot anyone could actually do on the trail.
However the damage was bad but not manageable:
Freak occurrence of both ball joints popping out of C (did not break just popped out) which caused the ujoint to basically exploded once it let go and the axle was on load and tire and knuckle off. One I was able to dig out and jack up the jeep we were able to take the axle out and stuff with rag and tape off and put the ball joints back in - had to try multiple times since I did not have a press but was successful just as the sun went down.
I was able to get it back off the trail the next day and trailered it home.
Multiple things on that stock m210 axle broke including the track bar mount on the axle (not repairable) sway bar links stabilizer shock and am going to have to replace axle. Want a 60 but kinda pricey - any suggestions?

The u joint/axle failed first which led to the ball joints popping out.

Glad you made it out OK. It certainly didn't look like it was going to be a fun extraction. I'm glad you were able to get it out without ratching a tree on it and dragging. I felt bad when you said who your group was in front because we saw them behind us at WH1 and I'm sure you were pushing it a bit harder than nornal thinking you wanted to catch up. We were all convinced the tight squeeze moments before would hold up your longer wheelbase but when you were right back on us we made the call to let you pass.

What sliders do you have by the way? We also have a Blue JLURD and I'm looking for something like yours that pop out a bit more.

60s are definitely $$$ best option may be getting a take off.

From my view I heard the ujoint fail before @Lonewolf ran out of his jeep saying the wheel came off.

Just tuned in and am delighted with your writing. I'm not quite into the level of wheeling I've seen from your last pages. Interestingly, after being involuntarily parted with my beloved '87 XJ (with factory 44, 5sp) and acquiring a nicely built '05 Rubicon (also silver) to replace it, the Rubi has been disappointing; struggling after wheeling the same trails the XJ never struggled on despite being on 31s. My experience thus far has revealed just how remarkable that XJ was and possibly how over rated the TJR is. My son bought a 2005 LJR brand new and still has it. Our first trip involved a run up Rose Garden Hill, following my XJ, which his Rubi failed to climb without rock piling due to his belly pan. Over the years, he has eliminated all the weaknesses regarding the original factory fails and has wheeled it on similar trails as you do. So, over time, I'll keep reading to see what i'm missing regarding the Rubi I always wanted but still falls short for me. Thank you for recording your odyssey. I'm sure to learn much.

The jeep threw some codes durning the last outing that pointed to the O2 sensors. Looked like the fuse blew that powers them but since it's something that was on my list anyways I changed them all out.

I feel like I've been absent from this forum for a good while and barely even touched my jeep. If it wasn't for @Lonewolf pushing me, which I appreciate immensely, to go wheeling my jeep (sometimes the JL) would have likely sat idle for the last 4-5 months.

We sold our house back in August and have been looking for a new home since. We finally closed today, after a month of delay, but it ultimately landed in our favor, we are happy to call Truckee, CA our new home.

While we'll be a bit further away from most of the Norcal crowd, traveling for wheeling never was an issue before and Slickrock / highway 4 trails are roughly the same distance. Any time someone wants to run Fordyce or Signal Peak let me know since it's so close to me now.

*jeep will likely live in the east bay until I can make room in the garage / for the trailer (snow melts). JL is nice for snow runs anyways so I'll let you guys shame me while I live the Bus life lol

Congrats on finally closing! You're in jeep heaven up there. I would like to run Signal Peak sometime, and maybe part of Fordyce. My skills, and my Jeep would not be up to par with the entire trail.
