Aftermarket IACV and MAP sensors? (05-06)

Is the TJ picky about the IACV and the MAP sensors being OEM or do the reputable off-brands work just as well? Specifically asking about the more complicated IACV sensors on the 05-06 units. Trying to track down a rough idle/misfire and buying all OEM sensors on a 175k mile TJ adds up quickly. Thanks!

I just picked up a Mopar IAC for my 06. With the amount of OEM parts being discontinued I figured I'd better get it while I can. The IAC seems to be one of those sensors that OEM works best. People have reported improvements by just cleaning them. The 05-06 is a different design and I haven't seen a great way to really clean it short of spraying cleanier in the throttle body at idle. At that mileage, if it hasn't already been done, the throttle body is probably due for a good cleaning. Not 100% sure on the MAP sensor yet. I've been trying to compare the NTK to the Mopar

I'm not sure what else you have done to chase down your misfire. I used to have a bit of a rough idle. I replaced all four O2 sensors which smoothed it out. The original sensors were still working and I had no codes. I'm guessing that as they age they loose some amount of sensitivity and it was enough to cause a slight miss fire.

Speaking of your rough idle/misfires, later model 4.0 engines like yours are very picky about their spark plugs and single-tipped platinum plugs like Autolite's AP-985 and Champion's 3034 will cause misfires/rough idle. Single-tipped means the platinum coating is on just one side of the gap, double-tipped means the platinum coating is on both sides of the gap. Later model 4.0 engines run fine on double-tipped platinum plugs like Autolite's APP-985 and Champion's 7412.

Exactly what brand and model # spark plug is installed in your engine?

Thanks Jerry! The first thing I did was reference one of your older spark plug posts and changed to the autolite XP985. Thank you for all you’ve done for the jeep community over the years- Ive used your guidance more times than I can count.

This rough idle seems to be heat soak related. I’ve cleaned the throttle body and the IACV (as best as you can on the ‘06 style), new intake air filter, new plugs, swapped spark distributor rails, both 02 sensors. PCM is a wranglerfix unit, fuel pump is new (Bosch). It only rough idles when ambient temps are 80s+ and it’s had time to heat soak after running/parking shortly, but gets to the point of a misfire on cyl 1 that’s both felt and recorded on the computer. 99% of the time it runs wonderfully
