Thoughts on suspension / lift on future EV rigs

Not joking too much but I have been looking at getting a Sami project and I would strongly consider an EV since it would be a dedicated wheeler. Long travel Independent suspension with a low CG and plenty of instant torque and 50 miles of range tops.

You should go for it, be the pioneer, but I think it will be all one-off stuff and expensive. Also, I like the fine print.

Do you know what the liquid heat exchanger is for on the motor above?

<shrug> Eventually (when battery tech improves) I'll do an EV conversion on an LJ for the challenge and because 100% torque at the first RPM. Resale value will be of absolutely no concern.

Why wait? Parts are available now. I think we will all be "aged-out" by the time a truly better battery is available.

and because 100% torque at the first RPM

That is some of the deceptive marketing that makes me dislike the EV crowd. They act like an electric motor makes xxx amount of power from start to finish. This simply isn't true. Electric motors have a range or window in which they operate efficiently in and make their rated power there. Otherwise, they ramp up and down.

Here's two dyno graphs from Tesla Model 3. Notice it's not a flat line. The first one makes the most power from 20-40 mph then starts dropping. There aren't any from zero, that's too hard on a dyno.

Just to clarify on my original post. I was thinking along the lines of a lift/ suspension design “upgrade” for current EV trucks like the Rivian / ford/Jeep/ GMC that are motor on axle design. not a motor swap from ICE to EV.

Okay, back on track.

Very similar suspension front and rear on the Rivian. Trick would be defeating the computer on the adaptive suspension (raise/lower). Or possibly spec similarly controlled air suspension with more travel from the same company?

Some custom upper and lower arms, extended RCV shafts and air coils. Good for 37s. Just got to convince someone to trim the fenders on their $100k ride.

The sprung weight of an EV will be hard to overcome. I’m sure some Bubba will do it, but I don’t see how it could be down easily at this point
