Just saw this on FB.

IMPORTANT RECALL NOTICE:
WARN INDUSTRIES has issued a recall which affects "certain VR EVO 8, VR EVO 8-S, VR EVO 10, VR EVO 10-S, VR EVO 12, VR EVO 12-S winches, and Remote Service Part".
NHTSA Recall notice: 22E101
Corrosion on Remote Control Circuit Board – WARN VR EVO Winch Wireless/Handheld Remote
This is because "Water may enter the handheld remote control for the winch and cause circuit board corrosion, which can allow the winch to operate unintentionally."
"As an interim action, WARN will provide owners with instructions to inspect the remote for corrosion and disable the wireless function by removing the battery pack from the remote. If corrosion or water intrusion is found when removing the battery pack, Owners should stop using the remote and contact WARN customer service for a replacement remote free of charge. Once parts are available, WARN will make a replacement water resistant Remote available to affected customers, free of charge. The manufacturer has not yet provided a schedule for recall notification".
Owners may contact WARN customer service at 1-800-543-9276 to find out more.

they're being a little vague on the results of that...."operating unintentionally", lol.

"Winch may operate unintentionally, drawing locked-rotor amperage possibly resulting in a vehicle fire"

Yes. But as least they have a number to call so you can verify if your is part of this or not.

Their website does not list this as a recall? Since it came from Facebook I gotta wonder if that’s just some rumor bullshit like Facebook has regularly?

It is legit https://www.nhtsa.gov/recalls?nhtsaId=22E101 Warn is still waiting on NHTSA to approve some parts of the recall strategy and that is supposed to be done by the 13th which at that time the notice will go live on their website and a link to a portal to request the replacement items. The Warn service centers have not even been brought into the fold yet but you should be able to go through them as well once the ball is rolling.

It came from Facebook but was posted by a reliable source or I wouldn't have shared it here.

It makes a lot of sense, cause there is no protection from moisture. The quadratec winch and pendant I’ve got on the jk is a hard rubber that look’s sealed from elements. The warn on my tj has a thin plastic shell with exposed electronics and switch. Drop it in the water and who knows what happens?

It rains a lot where I live. I don't have a wireless remote on my M8000 but I took the wired one apart and coated everything with dielectric grease. I also ran controls into the cab.

Has anyone that registered thier warranty with Warn been notified directly?
I have not.
I'm not particularly concerned about it, so I was going to wait until they get their ducks in a row before I contacted them.
But I was curious if they sent emails out directly to owners.

I would guess that because they are waiting on NHTSA that you will see it sometime after the 13th.

I'm disappointed that their solution is to just not have a wireless controller at all!

I guess I will be extra careful to keep mine dry and just carry on as before then.

Thanks for posting the update too.

I think that is the interim solution until they develop an updated remote. What is interesting is this looks like it follows the change from the rechargeable remote to the one with the triple AAA battery carrier. Go figure.
