What did you do to your TJ today?

I think I got my idle issues solved. At least I hope.

I have been experiencing a high idle that started about 3-4 months ago. I initially suspected the IAC so I removed the throttle body and gave everything a good cleaning.

I typically clean my throttle body during every oil change but I had never once cleaned the IAC valve.

It was obviously pretty dirty and after cleaning it up good I put everything back together. The idle was perfect!

Unfortunately the high idle would randomly return. I then started to think the IAC valve itself was bad so I was saving money to purchase the genuine Mopar version.

Today I grabbed a bottle of throttle body cleaner and thought I’d try cleaning it one last time. In the process of removing the air intake tube from the throttle body I accidentally bumped the throttle position sensor. The Jeep suddenly started idling high.

I then noticed that the throttle position sensor wasn’t screwed tight to the throttle body. I tightened both bolts up and now my Jeep is idling like it should.

Fingers crossed that I’ve solved the issue because those Mopar sensors are pretty expensive.

Our purple TJ friend is good at doing stuff. While I sit in his comfy chair, drinking his beer and watching his TV.

Well…it didn’t work. I’m still getting an intermittent high idle.

I drove it down the road and I’d get a high idle at a red light.

On the way home it ran perfectly.

I’m going to have to dig a little deeper I reckon.

How long did it take to drop that tank? I gotta do the slow fill mod on mine.

Took our purple TJ friend not to long to drop it. He had it on the ground after an hour or so. Dropping it was far easier than putting it back in like most thangs.

I am also now part of the BMB club. Just pads and rotors but after yesterday I am realizing the "you don't know till you know" thang that has been mentioned to me several times on this here site.

How are your vacuum lines? Any intake leaks or cracked vacuum lines?

Nice work.....I was going to go down the BMB road if I wasn't in such a hurry.

The PO had installed a Rampage front bumper and the cheap overseas powder coating was peeling, so I had it sand blasted and powder coated. While I had it apart, I replaced the swaybar bushings. The 4 empty holes for mounting the winch to the bumper needed to be filled so I added a winch. Whilst wiring the winch, the original battery cables looked really sad so I upgraded to 1/0 cables from JeepCables. I pitched the cables that came with the winch and made some custom 1/0 cables with a resettable 300A breaker and a 500A isolator relay. Final touch is a winch isolator rocker switch. The original fog lights were terrible so I added a set of Rigid SAE fog lights. Had to quit therebefore the Mrs started complaining (more).

Going to check out some springs today. Guy advertised them as 4” lift springs for a TJ and when I asked him the measurements he said 20” and 16”. That would make for more than a 4” lift so I’ll take a tape measure and check them out. For $50 I have to check ‘em out so hopefully they aren’t 8” springs lol

Not my tj, but it’s kinda related. I finally got my Dad’s Christmas gift from me hung up. I think it looks a bit lonely on the wall as of right now, but that’ll be fixed at some point with some pictures or something.

Been wanting to do this for a while, took over a year for me to find the right grille (I originally wanted this gift to be for last Christmas, but it took this long to find the grille). And only about a week before this Christmas it arrived. I had to do a bunch of work without him finding out that week in order to get it ready as a gift, he came pretty damn close to knowing about it. My brother saved me though!

Was a bit of an interesting drive home from Lowe’s with the wood!

Here’s him with his ‘87 yj islander he had in college for a couple years.

For all I know, I could’ve bought his exact grille. They’re not all that common, and the one I bought was just an hour away from his college…

Bought the springs even though they are a lot longer than I need. I think I might try them out if my control arms will adjust far enough out and my driveshafts will work without any modifications. If not I’ll chop the springs a couple coils and try it again lol the guy even threw in a pair of lower fixed control arms which are in decent shape. They have Clevite bushings in them which are a little cracked but not terrible. Should be enough to replace them anyways. I cleaned everything up with a wire wheel and some degreaser and then put some primer on everything. Probably just paint it all black but I haven’t fully decided yet. I also picked up some oil and some ATF +4 for my transfer case project which I might start on tomorrow now that I’ve gotten everything for the SYE
