Wildman's TJ is getting a face lift

Reading ARP's instructions I did install them correctly so I'm not sure at this point why the drivers side failed.

One of my goals someday is to swap a 5.2 from a GC into an early TJ and get rid of the death flash. Would love to feel the true power of one under the hood. Being mine is an 05 there’s just too much that won’t play nicely, emissions aside.

Yes with yours your options really are stay with the 4.0 or do a Hemi like Jeff did on his.

Edit: It's just all the "EXPERTS" spouting bullshit in all the engine swap thread don't know what they are talking about 90% of the time. Most have never been in a V-8 swapped TJ let alone a Ram 1500 with a 5.2 or 5.9 or a Grand Cherokee for that matter.
Things many don't KNOW about the magnum 5.2 & 5.9 are that it was the first factory engine to run a roller camshaft. Yes on paper they didn't show much for HP & TQ numbers but once you fixed some of the emission issues that CHOKED them down they aren't bad engines.

Dowel pins?

Yes the block has dowl pins but I'm not sure why it would be causing the head to not to want to come off. I tried a pry bar like this under the edge of the head against the side of block.

And I used the largest one I have and I can't get it to budge.

Might have to get my Port-A-Power out and use the spreader?

There are 2 on each side.

Hopefully... :ROFLMAO:

I was just pondering in my brain how (if there even was a way) could something get jammed in with the dowel pins and cause them to act like a press fit...

How much of this part of the head is exposed from the bottom? (it would be a good place to tap with a deadblow to try to dislodge the head from it's current state of "fuck you I don't want to come off")...

I've been prying under the green area between the head & the block. Can't pry against the timing chain cover but there is enough block there. The area you suggested I don't know if I can hit it or not. I'll try a long punch & hammer. If not then I'll try the Porta Power.

I can't quit remember but I think the front and rear intake bolts thread into the block. You might check those holes from a broken bolt. Not sure though but just a thought.

I did adjust the TV cable and It did not make any difference. I will mess with it some more tomorrow. I ran out of time before I had to go to work. I have been under there fixing the shift cable bushing so I might have popped of the TV cable not realizing it.

All the bolts are removed and I've ran a tap thru all the intake bolt holes so I'm fairly confident that there isn't anything broken off plus I've inspected all the intake bolts as they came out.

Bummer was hopping that would have fixed your problem. Didn't you say that the transmission had issues prior to you removing it?

But still glad you are enjoying your glued on +4 cylinders. Once you get all the little things fixed and worked out I'm confident you'll really LOVE your TJ. They should have come from the factory with the magnum engine,

Edit: Here is a dyno sheet from a stock 5.9 in a TJ. Not bad numbers at all for all those Nay Sayers.

Yes the transmission would not shift when put in drive at all. Once I removed it and had the pan off I decided to put a shift improvement kit in it. Now it shifts a lot better but just needs a little help getting off the line. Since it has the shift kit in it I can manually shift the transmission as needed.

OK I thought I remembered there being some tranny issues.

I'll try to find the troubleshooting I'd found about the 46RE. If I do I'll link it for you.

You don't sleep much do you? Its like 5 am there and you often post up late at night.

One of the JOYS of being a veteran. Sleepless nights are a "THING" 0503 Right Now.

Here is a 27 page thread where a Mopar tranny expert answered questions.

YAHOOO.... Fresh eyes I guess was what it took. But I still managed to bend the stud so I had to order a new one.

I'll get things cleaned up and the oil drained so I'll be ready when parts arrive.

I did manage to break the oil pressure sender in the process also.

Interesting...
The oil pressure sensor for the magnum is the same on a 1998 TJ according to Napa but it only lists the 98 Tj and doesn't specify which engine.

Edit: Darn it I don't have an extra one like I'd thought. So I'll pick one up from NAPA.

More KEWL stuff for us magnum guys... If I didn't have a built transmission I'd be looking at this as I REALLY like the idea of having 8 gears. But this is only PART of the equation as you need a controller for this. I'm sure it wouldn't be cheap but when you figure I spent $2600 on my tranny build....

Now LOOK at those ratios

Deserves a serious LOOK that is for sure.

I might look at triming the splash tray

I honestly don't know that I need it with this intake. But yes if I decide to run it I think trimming it would be a good idea. On the stock kegger & the AirGap or M1 intake it's supposed to fit. This intake hangs down further than any of them.
