Replace blower motor while I do the resistor?

My resistor is bogging out (this one lasted about five years) and I’m curious if anyone swaps out a new Motor while down there - or should I go with the “don’t fix what isn’t broken” scenario? Never been replaced. Cheers. If so, a reliable motor part # would be appreciated.
 
I've always replaced them as a pair on other vehicles. Especially if the parts aren't crazy expensive, it just makes sense. That being said, I'm still rocking the original blower and resistor on my '98 TJ.
 
If I was doing a new motor, I'd do a new resistor.
But if your motor is good, I just replace the resistor.
It's not like you have to tear the whole dash out to change either one of them.
 
Aging motors can draw more current frying resistors. Your motor is 18 years old and you are now on at least the third resistor. I'd replace the motor too, they are pretty cheap, around $50 on Rockauto, except for the Mopar one of course.

When I replaced the resistor on my 99, I had every intention of replacing the motor. Bought it and everything, but never got around to it. Now I have a TJ blower motor in my parts bin that fits a Jeep I don't own anymore, and doesnt fit the Jeep I do own. And it's waaaay past the return window.

My thoughts exactly. I’m actually buying my resistor from Rockauto - I see 3 motors - all aftermarket motors comparable eh? Appreciate this
 
Absolutely replace the fan motor too as it's the root cause of burned up resistor packs, melted wiring insulation, and/or burned fan speed switches. Its bare copper wire used for the windings is insulated with shellac which eventually breaks down causing the windings to start shorting together. That causes the fan to start pulling excessive current which is the root cause of those issues.

While you wait for Jerry to reply I'm confident he'll recommend Mopar, if you can find one.They were discontinued middle of last year. Aftermarket products are numerous and this forums members have many varied experiences with them. The general members consensus seems to be we have yet to find an aftermarket product that can be confidently recommended. Quite a few threads on here discussing this, suggest you check them out.

Mopar is my recommendation but as mentioned above, they were discontinued last year. But there are still some scattered around, I'd google the two below part numbers. One's for an automatic transmission and the other is for your manual transmission but both work equally well for your manual transmission. I gave you both to double your odds of finding one.

Again, either will work equally well with your manual transmission.

I found one two months ago at www.summitracing.com but just use Google. Good luck. By the way some Mopar sites will claim they have them but most will send you an email later saying it's out of stock.

Wow, are they ever scarce. I’ll keep hunting, thanks very much for your insight.
