I was imagining something like just the part that's circled in the pic here. Just some easy way to make the speaker tilt back a bit. But I would also need to check to see how much room there is behind for the whole pod to lead back at all. If I remember correctly, the select increment pods fill up most of the room back there.

Edit: Or, heck, for the price I could buy these and see what I can hack together with my existing pods.

if you get them and try them with the pods, dont forget to post it here! so we can have all the input about the best way to get some sound from the dash!

I like to ask what the "Person" is budgeting as well as what sound like they are looking for, like good overall or heavy bass, etc. Generally speaking, those BLAM speakers are up there as my best value speakers currently on the market, if you can source from the correct vendor (pricing). They are 2ohm speakers, so they draw more power and play louder than the average 4ohm speaker. Their clarity is amazing for the price.

I love your build, and your garage tools! I was thinking of your JET drill press the other day as I was doing a project.

Thanks. The big band saw has been coming in handy lately as well..

Do you have a flat out best, money is no object speaker suggestion? Or is that still the Blams?

there are two things to consider, power handling and sound quality, since you are using the head unit the power handling wont matter at all, so you should aim for the sound quality, in this case I would recommend some JBL or rockford fosgate, they are one of the best for the non-amplified system.

just because your headunit is not powering with too much power (18-20 RMS) doesn't necesarily means that you cant get a bigger power handling speakers, pretty much ALL the aftermarket speakers are capable of handling more than a headunit would provide, the kicker's are IMHO not great, again, for sound quality when the system is not amplified I would recommend rockford fosgate or JBL

I beleive the Jeep stock head unit is closer to 8-10 watts, pretty weak, we are talking about the original stock head unit, not an aftermarket, so you do not want 100 watt 2ohm speakers, like I think you are suggesting.

if you are running a decept amp I would suggest you are delivering at least 100 watts RMS to each speaker, so I would recommend you the Polk Audio MM series, they are pricey but they will deliver quality, for the soundbar I would DEFINTELY recommend you the JBL stadium series, they are 3 ohm rated so they will handle more power than normal 4 ohm speakers..

Polk Audio MM 5.25 for the Dash (please use the bracket I recommend at the beggining of the post)

Those Polk's are no bueno. Many other higher quality option out there, everyone should stay away from these Polks and do a little more research.

You are also making recommendations on a hypothetical amplifier. You would be surprised at BLAM then and there 2ohm rating.

Aw man, so jealous of your tools!!!

BLAM has multiple series, and there higher end ones are damn good. But their entry level speakers are amazing. Micro Precision is awesome for the higher end speakers, along with Audiotec Fischer's Helix comp series and their Brax series. So much more as well, it really depends on what one is buiding with the amount of options out there today which makes it really fun.

the non-amplified system speakers that I recommend were the rockford fosgate and the JBLs, those are not 100 watts RMS but more like 40 watts.

look into this one,

You guys gave some great info. My Jeep lives outside most of the time with just a bimini top. Only comes in if rain is coming so I cant really get a good head unit. I will let you know what a get next week, and how it sounds

I have been stuck in a lot of rain as well and you may be surprised that the head unit will be okay. Crutchfield includes all install gear, and I looked for a simple decent head unit, and this Alpine for $120, which includes install gear, is a good fit. Just a thought as it opens the door to more speakers, and possible amp upgrade.

there are some marine rated head units, not sure how good they work but they might be an answer for your problem, with the Polk Audio speakers you wont have any issues if the Jeep gets wet.. an example of marine head units are like thss one:

then again, if you want some more power there are some amps that do not require a head unit, you connect your phone by bluethoot and will power up to 4 speakers, look into this one:

they are really small so you can install them behind your dash with no worries,

Just remembered this thread.

I tried, and no, there is not enough room behind these brackets for the pods—at least not for my Select Increments pods.

So it seems that the only way to improve the angle of my dash speakers would either be to remove the pod and try this bracket, or else to do some serious hacking to the dash frame.

Niiiice set up.... I still have room for the recovery strap, jumper wires and the wood needed to lift my jack below the rear diff..
Why do you need wood for the jack? The factory jack is tall enough for 35's, or 37's in a pinch.

just for caution, to have a flat surface to mount it and not to extend the jack up to its limits, just 2/3 wood sheets and in case I would need it during the trail.. I like to lift the jeep from the axle instead of the shock mount as well..

I just finished putting the 5 1/4 Polks in the pods and dash today. They are on sale at Crutchfield for 60 bucks a pair. Just used the plates on the front ones, may get the pods for them later.

CDs sound better than the MP3s most of the kids listen to and better than sat radio. Even FM sounds better than either of those.

If you have a vehicle with HD FM, that's as good as CD quality over the air.

Looks good. How did you secure the boxes to the Jeep? Tabs/clips on the backside?

two of these bad boys to the inner fender.... I want them pretty secured.... the last time I flipped my rig everything was messed up... hahaha

What's the flipped rig count? This implies more than twice.

Getting bonked by speaker boxes when rolling or just getting in an accident...or any gear for that matter sucks...and sometimes can be more deadly than the roll over.

Reason why they make steel dividers for service vans.
