What are the 32RH transmission correct up / down shift points?

hey guys, looking for a little help... I think the gear change intervals on my auto gearbox are weird, the might not be and im being paranoid but though id double check.
to begin with upon taking off it docent want to change from first to second without a little help. ill only be speeding up slightly but the rpms keep getting higher and higher until I roll of the throttle a little bit to encourage it to change to 2nd. it seems as though the rpms will keep going up regardless how light I am on the throttle.
Isn't much concern I'm used to persuading it by now.

the other thing is that im not sure when my tj should be down shifting. I realise its only a three speed so it struggles a bit but if I do 55 kph (35mph) roughly at 1900+ rpm in second gear it will change down very sudden, while speeding up I make sure I keep it at 1900 or below until it passes 35 mph then I give it a bit more to catch up to the traffic that pulled away from me at the lights haha im fairly sure it a normal down shift interval but thought I might check ;)

thank you guys

Someone probably adjusted the transmisson's TV (throttle valve) cable too tightly. The TV cable connects between the transmission and throttle lever on the throttle body. The TV cable gets pulled when you step on the gas pedal, it controls the transmission's shift points and also causes it to downshift from 3rd to 2nd (passing gear) when you step down on the gas pedal hard enough.

Its length is adjusted at the throttle body where the cable passes through its mounting bracket. There's a small white plastic clip that holds it in adjustment, pulling that clip out about 1/2" releases its lock on the cable so its length can be moved in/out as required. The cable's length should be adjusted so its inner cable, inside the cable sheath, is taut with no slack but not actually pulling on the cable when you're not stepping on the gas pedal.

After swapping over to auto I have been trying to get tv cable adjustment right. After adjusting to where no slop when at idle I noticed I cant get the tb to have wot. Adjust for wot then trans wont shift correctly. Also running 33X 12.5 3.73 gears. To keep rpms in 2300s is there a problem running in 2nd gear?

There should be two cables at the throttle body. One goes back to the transmission which is the TV cable, the other goes to the gas pedal. Are you certain you're taking the slack out of the TV cable? The TV cable will have no affect on the gas pedal being able to take the TB to WOT.

I am sure that I am adjusting the right cable. Any thoughts about driving in 2nd gear to keep rpm in the 2000 range?

We have driven the 5000lb Jeep all across the USA last summer,I try to keep it under 3000 rpm which is about 63 mph.when we are in high altitudes(less power)I will have to go to second and have plenty of power to get over mountains.I’ll actually set the cruise at about 3200 and with the 4.56 gears and flashers on will make it over the top.😂

I'm totally unable to figure out how adjusting a properly installed TV cable would have any effect on the WOT throttle position when the throttle/gas pedal cable was installed properly. There should be no effect on the WOT.

So far as RPMs go, there's no need or reason to try to keep the RPMs close to 2300. In fact with the 3-speed 32RH RPMs would be significantly higher than that at normal cruising speeds when it is geared properly. The engine is quite happy at any rpm, and it will get up to 4k or even more when in 2nd for passing or going up steep roads. The 4.0 is not designed to cruise in the low 2000 range, it's in danger of lugging at low rpms like 2300 at highway speeds.

Sorry for the delay but what I was trying to say was @ 70 mph rpm is at 2800. Setting this up for 4.6 stroker towing small tent trailer. While most of my driving is at 50 the rpm is around 1800. When at 45 if I am in 2nd it will be around 2000 rpm. The question is could I drive in 2nd without overheating trans. I also installed a Derail trans cooler as per your great write ups.

Question - I have a 99 Auto 32RH with the white plastic clip (as did my 99 Cherokee) but I note that other models of the TJ (later) have a black pinch style clip that enables quicker and faster adjustment - as my mechanic advised based on the engine block I have an XJ engine in my TJ, is the difference between the white pull up clip and black push down adjuster a TJ vs XJ thing or early vs late model TJ thing?

My 2002 has the white clip.
