Earlier this week, I had been poking around the interior and saw my passenger side rocker panel has a series of holes just below the door sill. I thought at some point I could use those to mount something. Yesterday was a dreary, rainy day so I decided to make a small odds and ends bag for that space.

I took a few measurements in the Jeep to get an idea on minimum and maximums for clearance of the door and seat. After a quick trip to Joann's for a brass zipper, I made a bag template out of manila folders. Then I cut some leather and went to work. I got it all hand-stitched up late last night.

I wanted to keep the zipper somewhat protected/covered, so that was an intentional design choice.

On the side that will be where it mounts, I cemented in and stitched in a reinforcing strip of leather. I also did some extra reinforcement stitching around each hole.

Today I was able to test fit everything. Using what I hardware I had on hand that would fit those holes (in my case, one M6 and one M5 bolt), I fed them up under the rocker lip so their heads were outboard, threads to the interior, and held each in place with a nut. Then I simply hung the bag on each bolt to hold it in place.

Here's how it looks (temporarily) mounted in the vehicle:

This bag was made using the same oil-tanned hide I used when I made my shift boot. It's a much better leather for a storage bag than a shift boot. (During cooler weather the shift boot's thicker leather loses some flex, so I will be replacing it. I already have some thinner napa leather on hand for the replacement.)

For long-term mounting, I plan on using some push-in trim retainers just to keep the bag's interior neater. I think the holes are 1/4" so I will start there and see what I can find at the auto store. If I have to, I'll get some short, flanged bolts, washers, and fasteners and just use those.

No idea what I'll eventually end up putting in there, but a flashlight (like what I threw in there for the picture) is certainly an option. Thanks for looking!

Nice work.... Love seeing some good hand made stuff like this...very talented.
Best I can do is sew on a button that lasts about a week before falling off again haha

Well crap. The harmonic balancer wouldn't come off the rear shaft. Using the 3 bolts didn't work. One broke but enough stuck out that I got it.

I'm going to get a bigger puller tomorrow. Any specific snap ring pliers I should get while I'm at the store?

I ordered a set of rear floor pans and some front bumper hardware. I also ordered some stuff from Taboo Customs for roll bar mounting repairs and front bump stop and coil spring repair. I also finished painting the new to me lift springs which I scored for $50 a few weeks back. I have a ton of projects to work on when I get some more nice weather.
