So, earlier today my transmission started slipping. It’s an 06 with a 42rle. I’m wondering if anybody has any ideas on what to check first. Should I just swap the solenoid? Fluid level was a little low so I topped it off and still have the same issues and codes. Fluid and filter were changed a year ago. Color is still red. Valvoline atf+4 was used. Any ideas would be appreciated.

What codes? Post them asap. And since 05-06 models with automatics are known to have PCM issues that cause transmission problems let's get Mark @Wranglerfix Www.wranglerfix.com to see your codes to see if he thinks it could be PCM related.

All codes are in the pic. Also should mention i already have a wranglerfix ecu

@Chasitek What were your original issues/codes prior to replacement of the pcm? Have you smoked the Jeep for exhaust and intake leaks? When did you purchase our pcm?

The 0161 code leads back to:

  • Faulty Rear Heated Oxygen Sensor Bank 2
  • Rear Heated Oxygen Sensor Bank 2 harness is open or shorted
  • Rear Heated Oxygen Sensor Bank 2 circuit poor electrical connection
  • Inappropriate fuel pressure
  • Faulty fuel injectors
  • Intake air leaks
  • Exhaust gas leaks
The P0841-0846 codes lead back to:

Open in the signal circuit to the TFPS sensor.

Short to voltage in the signal circuit to the

TFPS sensor.

Short to ground in the signal circuit to the TFPS sensor.

Failed TFPS Sensor – likely Internal mechanical transmission issue.

Failed PCM - unlikely (programming required after replacement)

P0732, 33 and 34 lead back to:

Low or dirty transmission fluid

Mechanical failure inside transmission.

Internal blockage inside transmission main control.

Faulty Shift solenoid

Faulty transmission control module

I got the PCM 4/21/2020 because I had the o2 heater code and the rough shifts. Then reached out and sent the pcm back to you 5/24/22 because there were a bunch of weird random codes and the p0161 kept coming back. I’ve been ignoring the p0161 code ever since because i’ve replaced all o2 sensors and tested the wiring and all came back good so I gave up. These were the original codes recently when the tranny started slipping. I erased them and the other codes posted popped up. I only did an engine light scan. I’ll do a complete scan tomorrow and report back. Also, the evap was just the gas cap not being screwed all the way from letting my girlfriend drive it.

I would look into getting pressure readings. With the slipping and pressure rationality codes. Might be a line pressure issue.

I have a back up 42rle I grabbed a while back when a jeep popped up at my local lkq. I’ll swap a couple things to test and then likely just swap that transmission in. I put the transgo shift kit in it so I might as well just put it in the jeep now.

I little update, I’m pretty certain it’s the solenoid. It just started to whine.

Are you sure it’s a whine you hear? It’s normal for solenoids you buzz or vibrate, and you’ll hear this as you shift through Park, Reverse, Neutral, etc, but whining is more indicative of the transmission pump failing.

It’s a whine and gets louder if I sit and rev it in park. The pump would make sense cause it kinda sputters as though it’s sucking up air or something but the fluid level is 100% good. Wheres the pump at?

The pump is inside the case. Beyond considering that the filter is clogged or dislodged, I’m not familiar enough with the pump to consider other possible issues that would cause it to whine.
