Since I have both a TJ and a Gladiator I'm a member of other forums. I was trolling through the "What did you to to your..." thread on the Gladiator forum and noticed a huge difference to the "What did you to to your..." thread on this forum. I would estimate that 90% of the posts on the gladiator forum are about adding decals, gigantic "armor" , and other strange things. Also, some of the people on there are just plain rude AF, almost all of the pictures are from a driveway.

While this forum is mostly about practical improvements for off-road performance improvement, recovery equipment, and helpful discussions between members.

Long story short, kudos to @Chris for establishing this great platform for the TJ community

Thank all of you for making this a better place, truly!

You aren't wrong. Anyone who thinks this guy is just using hyperbole, I invite you to go check out the Gladiator or JL forums for a while.

The audience is entirely different. Heck, even the JK crowd is wildly different than the TJ crowd. I too have noticed that a lot of the folks on those forums are incredibly rude and only seem concerned with angry grilles and decals.

I will admit that there are a few good members on those other forums. For example I was looking to install the Mopar Trail Cam on my Gladiator, but Mopar doesn't have a kit. With the help of a couple of other members I was able to get the information that I needed. However, trying to het help is like pulling teeth just unnecessarily difficult.

Also I go there for a good laugh at some of the "build". I try to throw them up on the "Unfortunate JK, JL, JT..." threads on here for you guys to get a good laugh.

When I had my JKU I was on a JK forum. Between my disdain for the vehicle, and the caliber of people there, I didn't last long (on the forum or as a JKU owner).

Those folks are different.

I think the JKs are just like their owners. I don't hate them, but I don't like them either. There's just something off about them. I do like my Gladiator though. The fit and finish is pretty good & it can hold its own on the trail (until you hit a tree...ask me how I know). I only need a small truck so it fits the bill there & doesn't look like all the other minivans with a bed out back.

TJ's are a whole bunch less money, even in their current elevated value state. A lot of the Gladiator and JK crowd is leasing, I'd guess, so the most they can really do, without taking a HUGE loss on the backside of the lease is superficial modifications that are easy to remove.

The use case is different too... I don't mind getting Tree Pinstripes on my TJ...but I don't want to take my 2017 Colorado out on the same trail. Its my daily, I'll probably sell it, so a bunch of scratches in the paint are not going to help my cause. I didn't buy it to wheel...I bought it to be a decent little truck that can haul some stuff and drive me around when I need to go somewhere. Its capable of getting in the mud and trails, and I have used it for that, but only as a means to an end. My Jeep, on the other hand, is primarily a "fun" vehicle. I bought it FOR running trails and cruising in the summer. I also bought it to modify it...I've had the itch a long time to modify a vehicle and have something that you can't just go out and buy.

I like this thread. It pretty much supports my gut instincts about “us” vs. “them”.

As long as I have been on here, this forum has had it’s sleeves rolled up and would crawl under the jeep with you.

Chris has been great to help as I got up on phone tech and a friend to anyone that needs his help.

From world class advice from guys like Blaine and Jerry Bransford to tons of guys that just have good, practical experience and are glad to pitch in.

This forum has helped me really enjoy my TJ, stay satisfied with it and to even be able to pass some things along.

I doubt Jeep forums get any better. And if they do, I’ll join them and ruin theirs too. 😝
