Blower fan not working on all speeds

2001 Sahara, The blower fan works great, smooth, fairly quiet, in all speeds but one. The slowest speed (1) works fine, as does speed 2, Speed 3 does NOT work, and speed 4 works fine. I figured the resistor was the problem and put a new one in, but it still does not work, everything is exactly the same as before.
Ive read the threads on the blower motor, so far Ive only found trouble shooting for no fan at all, the motor, no power etc. but I have not found anything where just one speed does not work. Except for resister problems.
Im thinking its the fan switch itself, but was wondering if any one has been through this, im thinking its gotta be the switch resistor wiring or fan... it works great except for speed 3
Any help is appreciated.

This is from page 752 of the 04 service manual (you can find your year's service manual in the resources section of the forum)

If the fan works at all then there are only two things that could go wrong between 12V and the blower motor: the resistor block or the selector switch. Well I suppose wiring could be an issue, too.

That problem is definitely not being caused by the fan motor. You either have a bad switch or the specific wire for the inoperative fan speed has a problem.

Remove the A/C control console and inspect the wiring for the speed selector switch; IF there are no signs of overheating in the wiring or connector; then the problem is the speed selector switch. Either dirty or burned contacts inside the switch.
With the connector removed from the speed selector switch; use the schematic posted above and check the continuity between the speed selector terminals C1 (5) and 1,2,3,4 while rotating the switch.

That’s been awhile now, but I’m pretty sure it was the motor, changed it out and all is good.
in the end I changed out the switch, motor and resistor. I believe it was the motor that fixed it.

ohh yeah, the connector behind the switch was “overheated“ and deformed. I couldnt get a new pig tail so I reworked the connections, but again I still think it was the new blower motor that fixed it. Works correctly now.
