Buddy of mine just bought a ‘06 TJ Rubicon (6 speed). Wants a mild lift and 33’s. Figure there’s been enough similar builds to where there are some pretty standard recommendations for lifts. Will see light duty off road, nothing crazy. Ride quality is up there on the list of priorities. Thoughts? Thanks all.

This has been a great resource for lots of us on the more mild side. https://wranglertjforum.com/threads/a-recipe-for-an-affordable-but-quality-2-5-lift.41687/

~2in suspension, 1in body, MML. No SYE, no adjustable track bar. 17x33s

The two basic approaches are a suspension lift only and a suspension lift + body lift combo. A suspension lift only should be ~4”. A suspension lift + body lift should be 2.5” + 1.25”.

Shocks and tire pressure are the most important for ride quality. There is a lot left to be desired with a bolt on shock. The two most popular are Rancho 5000x and Skyjacker BlackMaxx. The important thing here is getting a shock that rides in the middle of it’s travel.

If you want really good you need to outboard the shock mounts and get custom tuned shocks.
