Utah Official TJ Fest 2023 Thread

Anyone have a room to share. For pay, of course. If not I’ll just camp 🏕.

Is there a list of trails to run on certain days?

I don't think there is a plan or even a proper list of who will be there and when. Not as much interest seems to be generating this year. I have been putting some thoughts into which trails I want to run. Wednesday the third will be my first trail day, with Saturday as the last.

Wednesday
Fins and Things
Hell's Revenge

Thursday
Arches Natl Park Via Klondike Bluffs

Friday
Steelbender - I have run this one before, but would like to compare upgrades to a previous run. Running the loop, not flat pass.
Seven Mile Rim w/ possible detour down and up Wipeout Hill

Saturday
Hurrah Pass
Chicken Corners
Catacomb Spur
Lockhart Basin

Anyone is welcome to join up, usually hit the trail about 7 or 8 am and plan to be out for the day. Bring a lunch and water. Not interested in the harder trails this year, my wife has asked for a more scenic grouping. She and I picked the above for the scenery and I managed to get a couple of fun ones in. She is happy and I get to play in Moab.

excuse my complete rookie question... but do I need to purchase park passes in advance? Or can I come, join some of you guys and purchase access at that time?

Also, IDK if you guys are aware of this, but Utah is requiring an online course to drive an OHV vehicle starting January 1 of 2023.

Here is the link:

Looks like regular plated vehicles are exempt from this...

I bought mine the day I was going into the parks, so you should be fine. However a nice bonus of doing it ahead of time would let you take back ways in instead of waiting in the potential lines (Arches always has a pretty decent line to get in the main entrance).

Arches NP has timed entry reservations now, which are made in advance on the recreation.gov site. It’s a $2 fee to make a reservation. April dates opened back in January so I’d recommend looking asap. You can enter before 7 am or after 4 pm without the reservation but you are required to have a reservation to enter between those times. If there are no more times available, there is an opportunity to get a reservation the day prior as well.

I don’t see any timed entry requirements for Canyonlands NP.

I typically by an annual National Parks pass. Makes things easier. However, maybe others know is the Arches pass good for both parks?

We weren't asked for a pass at Canyonlands last year even though I had mine ready.

Other than that you'll only need to pay for Hells and Fins in the Sandflats Recreation Area and you can do that as you enter.
  • Enter in a private vehicle and you have the option of purchasing a 1 day pass for $5.00 or a 7 day pass for $10.00.

Oh and I think there's an access fee for Pritchett too, again pay as you enter.

How much is Pritchett if you only run out to Chewy and back?

I went ahead and got an annual pass.

I also got a timed entry time for Wednesday, May 3 @ 7am for Arches NP, because I saw someone else was going that day and figured I may be able to tag along.

When are the rest of you planning to do arches?? I'm hoping to tag along with people as much as possible to hopefully learn as much as I can.
