Greetings everyone.

Monday I picked up a new-to-me 2001 TJ Sport.

My first Wrangler was a brand-new 1990 SE, with the 4-banger, 5-speed, half-doors, a carpet, and a backseat. Replaced that with a 1992 Sport, with the 4.0, 5-speed, half-doors, a carpet, a back seat, and a radio. Sold that one for a Saturn station wagon when my then-wife got pregnant. Wanted a replacement ever since, and finally got a 75th Anniversary JKU....All grown-up options, but I still got the manual transmission.

And I sold it before the first full year with it. What an utterly disappointing thing it was. So I started looking for a TJ. Not seriously searching, but just keeping my eyes open. Had to be the 4.0 with a stick, half-doors preferred. Lots of poorly-modified roaches out there, and lots of high-mileage beaters. And the really nice ones were $15k and up. But I kept looking and found this one.

She's got the Dana 44 rear axle with 3.73s, a stick, the 4.0, air conditioning, and a brand new top. Other than that and an aftermarket stereo, everything else is dead-stock. And only 113,000 on the odo. The paint's tired, but the body's relatively straight and rust-free. One split on the interior of the driver's door, but otherwise the interior looks amazing for a 22 year-old Jeep. No oil leaks; shifts, starts, stops, and turns well. No funny noises or smells. Needs a new turn signal relay, the "4WD" dash light is out, and I have to trace a water leak into the passenger area, but otherwise it's a great driver.....And (I think) a steal at $10k.

All the goodness of my YJs with a better top mechanism and far better suspension. Couldn't be happier with it.

Cheers!

Great story, tried the rest now you got the best. Congrats on finding a good one.

I spent several years living in and around Roanoke actually. I've heard the place is practically Gotham city these days.

Welcome and, nice to see another Sienna Pearl TJ! Looks far cleaner than mine too!

I hadn't been to Roanoke in a while now. I used to live down in Smyth County, ~100 miles south of you on I-81. I miss the mountains, stuck on the coast right now.

Wonder if this car is still resting just off the trail I used to walk when I was in town last.

It sure is. My GF lives about two blocks from that trailhead, so we hike past that frequently.

Welcome from your neighbor from straight down 81!

🤔

Well, down 81, over 40, and then down some more on 65. But, welcome non the less.

🙂

Aaaaaaaand I'm back.

After the buyback of my rustbucket, I kept looking and found a 2005 RME with 150k at the right price.
