Atlas build questions

Coolest thing is you can run trails all day long in 2.0:1, hit a technical section and with one very easy pull of the rubicrawler shifter you are in 5.44:1. Just as easy to go back to 2:1 once you are through.

Almost like having an np205 and a granny trans 🤫

I’ve always thought a Rubicrawler in front of an Atlas 2.0:1 would be the perfect setup for a TJ. That would result in a driveline much shorter than stock, and therefore a much longer rear driveshaft (shorter front as well).

But crazy expensive…

Does the 2.0 use a different box than normal? I’m not seeing how it would be any shorter than stock wheelbase

A two speed atlas is shorter than a stock 231 or 241. The planetary on the front of that case adds a lot to the length.

A 4 speed Atlas is just about the same length overall as a stock 231/241 - as it also has a planetary on the front.

The rubbicrawler relocates the planetary into what would otherwise be the transmission housing.

I think my rubicrawler setup is too low at ~7.4:1, a 2.0 would help that.

Didn't go that low in my atlas.

Ah ok that’s the same length as my current setup. Maybe that helped a little with being able to dial in more caster.

I am only seeing 3.0 as min ratio on atlas 2 speed.

I'd say it depends on what you do with it? Tons of rock crawling and limited trail riding distance, deeper ratio would be fine. I have basically same setup, 4.56 gears, 32rh, 35s. I went with 3.8 ratio on atlas. I've never felt like I've needed a deeper ratio, but where I ride, I do get annoyed having to leave low range to be able to travel faster between obstacles. In 3rd gear low range, I am cruising at 3k rpms around 10mph. For any distance, that gets annoying real quick. I don't regret my choice, and am glad its not any deeper. Again, I feel like how you intend to use it should dictate your ratio choice, not "just because they offer it"

Do you have a 32Rh? I can’t recall what I can get to in OD on the 42rle, I think like 20mph
