Who insures your TJ?

After nearly 20 years with USAA I switched to State Farm and dramatically cut my rates. USAA isn't what it used to be.

Same, We moved to Florida from Texas in 2019 and USAA was more than double than what we were paying previously. I was ignorantly content for over 20 years with USAA, and wonder just how much I was overpaying if I had shopped around every other year or so. I am with State Farm now for our home and vehicles, and my only complaint is State Farm only has 6 month auto policies.

American Classic car ins. declared value, no real restrictions on driving. I have 3 cars under it, 81 Vette, 74 TR6 and the 05 TJ all for about $540/year and that is here in lower NY. They paid out really well when I crashed the TR6 into my work van in my own driveway.

My google-fu is weak, I'm not finding them online...

A lot of polices have exclusions for racing and competition but not generally for off road use. Best to check your individual policy. Otherwise farmers and Contractors would never be able to get insurance. Insurance does cover stupidity more often thank you may think.
I was referring to classic car insurers (Grundy, Hagerty, etc) with respect to off-road use. I haven't heard of any issues with coverage from regular insurance companies.

I was with State Farm also for over a 25 years. Then a a year ago they dropped coverage on my Mountain Home saying it was in a fire area. I checked with several and no one will cover fire areas in CA, so I had to go with the California Fair Plan. The Fair Plan is anything but fair, it is a CA plan for people that have been canceled and it only covers fire, wind things like a tree coming thru your house. It does cover theft, liability or water damage and my coverage went from around $1,400.00 a year to $4,800.00. So I dropped State Farm and went to Allstate and a little better coverage a little less, moved three cars, my home and one rental house sorry State Farm

had no idea california was exclusive to fires.

currently with farmers and they’re getting expensive. had liberty mutual before and took a screwing when a huge oak fell on a new to me 2012 f-150. their better car replacement is a damn joke at best. lost $ big time on that deal. had state farm for almost 20 years and had to part company with them due to a personal legal fuck up. they were good on auto claims but, not so much on the house. recently checked back with state farm on the three vehicles and they were almost $500 more on a six month policy. insurance is a racket, damned if you have it, damned if you don’t.

I've been with USAA since '66
I've had claims for damage to my home, but never for a vehicle
Last November I was involved in a car accident. The other driver was at fault, his insurance company (Progressive) was very slow to respond. I contacted USAA and they have been handling everything. So far they have paid out more than 28k for repairs tomy 2022 Volvo. I'm sure I could find a cheaper rate but I doubt that I could find better coverage.

I've been with USAA for 35 ish years and so far they have taken really good care of me. Paid out well whenever a kid totaled a car and even gone after other folks when it was their fault. I just made the call and they took care of everything. Maybe they are more competitive in ID?

Does any insurer provide more than $5k over blue book for upgrades in florida? I can’t seem to find one and one axle alone more than wipes that out considering the VIN is from base TJ.
As far as insurers, there are big differences in company’s claims practices and when people say I have full coverage it is frequently far from accurate. Some had the Florida minimum which does not include any real liability insurance.

Does anyone use Hagarty or Grundy to insure your tj? I know they place strict limitations on the vehicle's usage. Right now I am with Geico.
Thanking you in advance for your input.
