2005 Rubicon with 33x10.5's. Don't rock climb. Don't mud bog. But I do ride muddy roads, deep sand beaches and cross some ditches in the hunt club. Any reason I should avoid the small locking hub kit from Yukon? Thanks.

I see no benefit or reason for running manual hubs with your intended uses. It certainly will not improve mpg if that's one of your thoughts about it.

That's why I am here. Vibrations. I guess to clarify my question I should ask if the smaller ranger hubs would hold up under this type use. I see mixed opinions about the ranger hubs durability. Thought maybe some one here had actual experience with them. Thanks.

Are certain your vibrations are coming from the front axle? As in from excessive pinion angle caused by dialing in more caster angle? Have you disconnected the front of the front axle shaft from the axle and suspended it up so you can test drive it to see if the vibrations go away?

2005 Rubicon. Had a pulsating vibration above 55 mph. Suspected ujoints. Removed front shaft and had no vibrations. Took shaft to Drive Line Specialists in Jacksonville Florida. They replaced joints, checked the center joint and balanced the shaft. So now it had a vibration at 55 still but was steady, not pulsating and was very fast. So I removed the rear to see it it would vibrate while pulling in 4 high and still had the vibration. So vibes in 2wd and while in front wheel drive. I replaced the axles joints even though I thought the vibration was too fast for something past the diff. Removed 1 inch spacers , on jeep when purdhased, and raised transfer case back up and still have vibes.

Has your front axle's caster angle been increased by the use of adjustable length control arms? If so the fix is to simply reduce the caster angle a tad so the vibrations stop.

To answer your question PO, there is no reason to avoid the small hub kit in regards to strength and functionality with your 33s. Been running mine for a while with 35s on fairly challenging trails.

Will check when I get home. If so it was done by PO. Is there an angle measured off the diff that would be indicative of normal caster?

I’ve measured on the the flat spot on the bottom of the C. Or on a low pinion dana 30, the caster is the pinion angle -12*

I think he has a 44, but the same info is available if he digs for it.

To be honest, I like my hub kit as it eliminated my vibrations, but don’t be afraid to adjust the pinion up 3 degrees or so above the driveshaft angle to check for vibrations.
After installing my hub kit and dialing in 6* of caster I have no vibrations even with the hubs still locked in. Lol.

To your question, I’ve been running the small Ranger hubs for a couple years now on 35’s. I rock crawl and do some pretty extreme trails. I bought two spare hubs as back ups, but have not had to use them yet. I’ve not had any issues with durability thus far.

I saw that and will be putting it on my wife's card tonight. Haha

Yukon has a large event next weekend with their installers. Not sure if any savings can be had with a local shop but you might call a local Yukon installer and see.

$1020 gone bit the vibes are gone too.
