How much money is my 2002 Apex Edition TJ worth?

While it breaks my heart, I've decided I have to let my TJ go. But my knowledge is limited and I could use some help figuring out how much I should ask for it. Any guidance would be greatly appreciated.

It's an '02 Apex Edition, which is a Wrangler X with an 'APEX' decal on the hood, cognac colored (jeep's word) leather seats, and a fancy stereo for its time (it's been replaced). It has 116,xxx miles and 4.0L I6 with a 5 speed manual. It spent the first 20+ years of its life in Tennessee before I bought it last August. So, it has absolutely zero rust on the body and just a little bit of surface rust in some spots on the frame. The top and interior are in really good shape and it runs great. Not many extras to it besides American Racing rims, rivet style(?) fender flairs and an aftermarket stereo (which I know nothing about). I think it's pretty much stock otherwise.

Issues?:
- It has a bit of a rear main seal leak but it doesn't leave any spots and I've never had to add any oil to it. So, it wasn't high on my priority list.
- The motor is a little bit grimy but no more than I would expect for a 20 yr old vehicle.
- The driver's side window takes some extra elbow grease to roll up when it's particularly cold and dry outside.
- The hood has a crease/dent in it where it looks like it got knocked up against the top of the windshield frame pretty good.

Perhaps TMI: I'd really like to keep it but it's just not in the cards right now. I'd planned for it to be kind of a project for my dad and I but he passed at the beginning of February and it kind of bums me out to have it around now. Like I said, probably TMI.

Sincerest apologies for you loss. I can understand how this would no longer be a fun project.

Jeep prices vary a good amount from location to location. I'd check marketplace and see what nearby listing are priced at. It looks like a pretty clean Jeep so it shouldn't be a hard sell. I would agree that $12k would be a good expectation. I'd list it higher so you have some room for negotiations. You might also find a highly motivated buyer. Expect lots of messages from lowballers and scammers. Best of luck!

I do not know what part of Indiana your at but I did a quick Google search. It looks like prices run between 8-12k for a X with your mileage. Since you do not need to sell I’d start at 14k and see what happens. As said before you can always lower the price. How much did you pay for it originally? In my opinion Apex adds no value but your level of rust helps especially in the North.

Not sure but I think you could get more if you swap out the wheels and flares for stock ones

You're probably right. I actually ordered stock flares but returned them when I decided I was going to get rid of it.

I paid around $10k for it in August and had to put some more into it (fuel pump, catalytic converter, plugs, etc.) because it had not been driven much for a while and needed some TLC. All together, I have more in it than I care to calculate but I fell in love with it because you just don't see them around here with no rust.

You figured out first hand they are a terrible investment

Sorry for your loss.
Keep it until spring fever hits. Ask what you paid for it and see what response you get. You could get that. But be prepared to take less if you don't get much interest.

Solid advice. Convertible weather is almost here.

It is painful to have around right now,but i advise waiting before making grief motivated choices. But if you stash it somewhere for 6 months or longer it can be a good thing to have stuff around that will remind you of your pops.you may eventually want those reminders.

You obviously don't live in a place that has a fucking clue.

You live in Iowa? :rolleyes:You're probably smart enough to pay $15,000 for an $8,000 Jeep. Try to get your post count up to 2 before responding to me again. Did you understand that, and can you do math? Use your fingers if necessary.
