I am not going to copy my whole "build thread" over to this site, but I tend to prefer this site. All the cool kids are here. I'd still like to document the slow development of my continuing build and ask questions that have a hope of getting answered. Thus this thread.

Recap of my current build:

My dad was the original owner of this '02 5spd Sport. It had the optional rear Dana 44 stock. He built it for 33s with rear detroit locker, front ARB, 4.56 gears, OBA, skids galore, warn front and rear bumpers and a Warn XD9000i winch. He mostly wheeled it in Washington and Oregon but had done Moab twice iirc. When he started talking of selling it because he wasn't using it as much since moving to the dry side of Washington where trails aren't nearby, I jumped on it and shipped it out to Toronto, ON Canada where I moved 11 years ago for work and stayed for the woman.

Since buying it in the summer of '14 from my dad, I have done the following**:

1) Metalcloak Front and rear fenders, corner armor and rockers
2) replaced the 2.5" Rockkrawler lift with Currie 4" and then later did the Savvy mid-arm upgrade
3) 35" Nitto Mud Grapplers (wished I had went Trail Grapplers instead..live and learn) on Dirty Live beadlocks
4) Motobilt front and rear bumpers
5) TMR skid plate with tummy tuck (I think it is a 2" drop iirc)
6) Vanco 17" big brake kit in the front with BMB
7) Currielync steering upgrade
8) outboarded rear shocks and spring perch relocation
9) RCVs in front, Chromo in rear
8) Tuffy rear storage drawer
9) Rockhard bolt in cage
10) Thor cowl intake
11) Bestop soft top, but still have my hardtop with broken rear glass (2nd time it happened)

** less thing that I since got rid of or replaced

Those are the major upgrade excluding things like stereo, interior,

OK, so I haven't been updating this thread mainly due to the fact I have been out wheeling most weekends since mid-May when the season started up here. However, now I have some maintenance to do.

My biggest current issue is what seems to be a radiator leak. I'll see if I can upload a short vid I took of the leak. It wasn't leaking before, because I don't drive during the week, only the weekends when I go wheeling and I check for leaks every time. Yesterday, I went to finishing re-installing my amp so I have tunes and noticed a small poll running downward and looked and saw it was from the radiator but specifically I have to investigate more.

Now, as it turns out, I have all the parts on hand already to fix this, I think. I have a Mopar rad, the fan clutch, hoses, the rad cap and another part I forget the name of. I had an issue with once or twice a year having a sudden overheating issue. I'd pull over turn the heat on full blast for a bit, turn it off, then wait ten minutes and it would go away and not come back. Like 2-3,000 miles between.

Mostly on the highway, but once on the trail. So I had planned to replace the whole cooling system and researched the parts and ordered, except I don't have a garage or shop to do the work in, just the underground garage so I was procrastinating. I also don't know what I am doing.

So here I am now, going to look up how to do it so that I really flush the whole system and don't end up with air bubbles which plagued a former Subaru I owned. I also need to do this before next weekend as I am guiding my first trail(s) officially for my club.

Do I have to take the front clip off? Hope not.

Take the front clip off to change the rad? No. Unbolt the fan and shroud and remove them together to get room for the rad

Thanks. I didn't think you had to. Yesterday I watched a whole bunch of YT vids on the process. TBH, looks straightforward. I am fairly handy and a quick learner, but didn't want to tear into it and then get stuck and not be able to take it somewhere to finish.

If your temp is randomly spiking I'd be looking at the thermostat. And I'd also check the weep hole on the underside of the waterpump when the pulley is off. Beware of parts store waterpumps, they don't last very long. Mopar pumps are much better. Flushing the block out(and heater core!) so chunks don't jam the thermostat is a good idea.

(Edit-i american flagged your last post,I'm sure that means something else to you canucks 🤣)

I read all the stickies I found here on the coolant system and those OEM or better parts are the ones I had ordered. I ordered a new rad, hoses, thermostat, gaskets, water pump, fan clutch. I read the thread on flushing the whole system including the heater core and engine block, but wasn't 100% clear on the instructions. I need to watch someone demonstrate it on YT to clarify it for myself.

No issue with the American flag. I am American, born in Lompoc, CA. I moved here 12 years back for job and stayed for the woman.

So here is what a radiator looks like after a couple seasons on our trails without the ability the park onto of a sprinkler like most do.

Then I think this is the hole. Not sure the cause, but it looked like it was leaking here.

So much room for activities...

Now if I can loosen the damn fan bolt. I can't get the housing to not spin with all the methods I've tried. I have a BF Wrench for the fan bolt, but the housing it attaches to just spins despite all my best attempts to stop it.

Holey moley. Thats impressive. Like hunting in tall grass then running some mud bogs to cement the adobe!

Our trails have numerous muddy water crossings (mostly hard bottom though). Can't avoid them. Minnesota is the state of a 1,000 lakes and Ontario is the Province of 10,000 supposedly. The beavers create all kind of water diversions across the trails. Only a few legal rock only trails (my preferred trails, like Forest and Greens).

We get in the habit of greasing everything often and changing the diff oil often.

This is Picard Lake trail and one of our "newbie" runs. If you turn driver after that rock, there is a cool steep and long rock hill climb with abnormal grip for Ontario that is fun. Again, beavers did this.

As I mentioned on another thread, I got the whole coolant system redone and flushed the system. The fluid was dark brown. It was due.

Runs below 210 now consistently where it ran 220+ before on the highway. Did about 400+ miles and two trails and everything stayed cool. I guess I did it correctly.

I need to do an oil change and lube everything this weekend, so I can get back out next weekend.

I neglected this thread all season while I was busy wheeling. I call that a win as my Jeep is meant to be vehicle to get out of the city on the season's weekends. I did a lot. I think I counted something on the order of 14 weekends wheeling and some camping as well.

I had a serious issue that had me call CAA (equivalent to AAA in the state) to bring my Jeep home after my coolant system overhaul. Turns out I haven't gotten the air out and I had left the rad cap on half-way. After driving an hour on the highway, it had had evaped a lot of fluid and left me stranded.

After getting home, realizing my dumb ass error and burping the system proper, she was good for the rest of the season. Now I have a huge laundry list of small items to tackle. However, this season was great. I did all the remaining hard trails (except the extreme ones) I wanted to do this season. I lead a few advanced runs for our club officially, having done the official training needed for the insurance crap.

* I want to do at least one of the extreme ones next season.
