42RLE rebuild

I've installed temp sensors on both lines (return and supply) at the trans, connected to a 2-pole switch so I can see both temps before and after the coolers. Haven't run this setup in the summer yet, but so far the radiator and Derale coolers are reducing temps by about 40° at operating temps.

The temperature of the ATF in the pan is the one that counts .

The pump draws from the pan to send through the cooling system. So the temp at the discharge of the pump and the ability to compare the temp at the return from the cooling process is irrelevant?
It's like having a thermometer in my house... I want to know the temperature where I am. I don't care about knowing the higher temperature of the air leaving the furnace or the cooler temperature of the return air.

Makes sense. I guess the pan temp is somewhere between my readings then. I do like being able to see the higher of the temps, though. I installed the gauge to be able to know if the fluid temp approaches levels that would adversely affect the fluid properties.

Appreciate it. I was just getting set to send you an email and order the pan.

Somehow I wound up with at least 1 extra Dorman pan, maybe 2.

I am 99% sure that I shipped all of them that were requested but the fact that I have an extra pan or two means someone is probably wondering where their pan is. Get in touch if so.

Again, and I can not stress this enough. It is impossible to track who gets and needs what when pans show up at random drop shipped from Amazon and similar. Then I get some with a name, but the name is not connected to the forum username. Then I get forum user names without real names.

At the end of it, I have a pile of pans. Then I have a list of real names. Then I have some forum names. If I have inadvertently screwed someone over by not getting their pan out to them, two things are true, I'm sorry, it was not intentional and I'm going to have to change how we do this.

So, who is missing a pan?

I have not received mine. I was planning to give it a month before checking in. I’ll follow up via our emails.

Back to the Rebuild. Picked up Jeep from shop and it drives like a dream. Almost could say throttle response is improved? IDK.
Problem is can’t drop it in to 1st gear manually. Also trouble hitting park in the sense that key can’t be removed without shifting down out of park and back in.
I called the shop, dropped it off and they said they will fix it.
But;
They also said they had trouble with it also but didn’t think to try shifting in to 1st. And that there is no adjustment in this cable and they know what to do to fix it and it’s just to “make it adjustable “

This scares me yet the jeep way a there and O typically trust this guy with about anything.

Anyone had this issue after remove/reinstall of a rebuilt 42RLE?

The cable is adjustable, they are being silly.

That’s what I said. Adjustable on the tranny end? Not the shifter end right?
Shifter is where adjusted mine. Wasn't fully hitting park on occasion and would sometimes need to hit N to get it to start. All good now.

I have the Jeep back. It’s perfect. He said it was just some adjustments. 🤷🏼‍♂️
I like doing my own work but with the transmission….

Anyone have any feedback or insight on Auto Meter 880260? I get the initial uptick of the needle when the ignition is cycled from OFF to ON but there is no further movement after that. It's only 50° today but after 20 minutes of driving the needle still had not moved any further.

For ignition, I have a 3A inline fuse and a fuse tap source that has ON/RUN power. The ground for the gauge and the bulb goes to the driver side speaker ground. I thought that maybe the sensor was not grounding through the port so I ran a ground from the port to the engine block but that did not affect the reading. The fluid is also at the hot full mark so I'm sure the sensor is submerged in hot fluid.

Before I take the dash apart to troubleshoot further, maybe someone has some insight on how they wired their Auto Meter temp gauge.

Mine doesn't do an uptick. It takes a few minutes of driving to begin showing a temp.

I recall only three wires. The sensor terminal is wired directly to the temp sensor in the pan. The accessory light is tapped into the shifter light. And the ground is attached to the tub near the shifter plate.
