Hey y’all,

I have a 05 rubicon today I had a really rough start and idle, need help finding the issue. I have new plugs, new coil pack, injectors heat wrapped, new catalytic converters aswell. I am extremely confused on what it could be.

Thanks,
Logan

You’re 17 years old and own a Rubicon. Doesn’t seem like a rough start to me!

I had a similar rough idle issue for several months. Even through two engines so I knew it to be something other than the engine itself. Put a new NTK o2 sensor in my upstream location even though I didn’t have any codes and live data logging showed voltage through the sensor but since the moment I replaced the sensor I’ve had zero issues with a rough idle every time I started it up for about the first 60 seconds.

Took a look at it haven’t cleaned the IAC but I am going to tommorow the previous owner burned the pigtail on one of the 02 sensors up steam. I can easily solder on new tails but I don’t know where to find new ones. Any ideas?

take your time getting the 2 screws out for the IAC if they have never been removed before. they can sheer off easily & its a weird angle to get at short of pulling the manifold to drill and tap. ive had to work the screws back and forth ever so slightly to get mine out.. and mine weren't all rusty.

for what its worth, its generally not recommended to solder o2 sensor wires and ill leave it at that. not looking to get into a shit throwing contest so you can google about it if you want.

cant say that I havent tried soldering on o2 wires personally in the past... but my repair didnt work at the time.

O2 sensors are fairly cheap and its something that doesn't hurt to replace anyways other than its just more money 🙃

I talked to previous owner and he changed 02 sensors before I did the catalytic converters and I haven’t gotten any codes about issues from that. He used the NGK ones too so I’m not worried about changing them any time soon. So anything else to look at besides the IAC tommorow?

Amazon has everything. You could splice these in.
