Just to simply put it. I sold my rubicon last year. HIGHLY regret it. So now I want to buy another one but it seems my 2 local banks are not connected with the prices of tjs nowadays. Anyone got a recommendation for a good bank or credit union? Specifically in the west TN and middle TN area.

It sounds like you are going to need to save up some more cash. No bank is going to give you a big loan to buy a 20 year old vehicle nor should they. That’s asking for trouble for everyone involved. You can easily walk away from that deal and leave them holding an empty bucket of rust.

How are the rates?

Like everything else now they are complete garbage. When the economy was better I was getting 5% APR on a 72 month 25k loan. It is of course based off credit. They are the only company I know that will loan on any car, even if it’s listed for way over KBB.

They also don’t hold the title either which is nice.

Financing was the only way I could pay for my 05 TJR. If it ever dies and I can't repair it for what ever reason, I will pay the payments and it will be a decorative ornament in my front yard for all to see. I've always lived my life that I want what I want, and I don't give a fuck. YMMV

Use this website to compare current rates. Spoiler: They all currently suck.

https://www.datatrac.net/

Input your zip code and then select Auto from the dropdown list.

It will let you choose to check local banks and credit unions or national lending companies.

Good TJ hunting to you!

Lightstream, I use them all the time.

They’ll loan on any car no matter how old or how expensive.
Assuming you have exceptional credit, I can recommend Lightstream for classic automobile purchases as well. Rates were competitive with our credit union, no pre-payment penalties either. The loan is effectively unsecured, they don't care what you do with the money which is convenient for a fixer-upper where you might want to have some extra cash for "stuff". Their process is easy and fast.

You'll get a modest break on rates when you use their auto-pay option. Their auto-pay is a little different... Instead of pushing scheduled payments from your bank, they ACH into your account and pull the funds on the agreed schedule. This makes pre-payment a bit more cumbersome.

A virtual bank will finance. That type of bank allows the Ford dealer, in my town, to sell tow=of=the-lot trucks for stupid high prices

Save up and pay with cash, hard to say what other things are going to need attention and will require even more money. Not to mention how will you have any money for mods??? I like my TJ but it has nickel and dimed the SH*T out of me.

I tried that. When my YJ got repoed in 1990, I decided that I'd never let that happen. When I found my TJ in 2015, I had ZERO Dollars saved to buy it. So I paid Tucson Federal Credit Union 1.5%, paid it off in five years, and now I don't have to worry.
In case you're not good at math, I went 25 YEARS without a Jeep.

How did you make it that long without a savings, yet had the money to make the payments every month?

Listen people, I'm not here to tell you what to do, but come on! It's the most basic addition and subtraction on earth and no one seems to get it.
