What did you do to your TJ today?

Me and my son's have put one in an '85 4Runner and a '93 S-10 years ago. The 4 Runner was my first experience doing it and it wasn't bad at all. The hardest part was working with what I had, which was a regular floor jack, some various blocks of wood and straps; unstable is an understatement. By the time my other son's S-10 needed it, I had a transmission jack from Harbor Freight. So much better of an experience. It also works well for removing fuel tanks and transfer cases.

That looks like something I’d do lol I’ll have the engine out so the clutch install should be pretty smooth (at least in my mind it’s should be). The only thing left that even remotely concerns me with the new engine is getting the distributor staked, not that the task is difficult, but with the new pistons and rings the engine is hard to turn over by the crank bolt. I’ve got a few ideas but it’s been raining for almost 5 days so I haven’t had the chance to mess with it.

Found a good deal on some wheel adapters in a local Jeep group. $50 for 4 new in the box. Guy had another pair that he was trying to sell me but I didn’t see the need at this point in time. Now to find some JK take offs.

The story gets even crazier:
When I contacted @sab he gave me the email of Big Tex Autoplex and I contacted big Tex to thank him for giving sab the stickers. He said that if I wanted to send him the vin he’d give me whatever info he had so I sent him the vin. He emailed back and said “have I got a story for you! Call me when you get a chance “ so I did. He said that it doesn’t get any more Texas than that Jeep. He had sold it to a friend of his three months prior to my getting the tub. His friend has a cattle ranch and it was to be a ranch/ hunting Jeep. Well, he took the Jeep hunting and it got stolen from camp by an illegal. They found it a few days later in the middle of the Pecos river stuck and abandoned and subsequently totaled by the insurance company!

Once it's built up - it's gotta be the best Jeep story anyone has heard of at any meet you attend haha. Nice!

Dang. I went looking in my local CR. Peeps want and arm and a leg I would say because of the tyres.

Yea some people are ridiculous with their prices for wheels and tires that will just sit around and collect dust. I’ve seen them in the recent past for $150-$300 but of course now that I have some adapters there aren’t any listed that cheap lol I’m not in a rush to buy any just a plan for down the road. I’ve only got about 20k on the stock sized tires on my jeep now so I’ll just be patient for now.

Over the last couple of weeks I dropped the tranny and tcase. I sold the 231j and did a complete clutch refresh on the 3550. 133k and the factory clutch disc is almost to the rivets. Replaced with Luk.

The only clutch related part not replaced was the master slave assembly. The 3550 then got a new friend. Atlas 5:1 was installed and naturally a couple of tub clearance issues arose. I had to use the tcase and my jack to clearance just in front of the right seat mount on the driver seat. I have about 1/4" now. The other clearance issue was the twin stick mount and the tunnel. After some strategic cutting and bending and hole patching there's about 1/4" clearance. Support for this marriage was provided by a GR tranny mount.

Getting carried away with the preparation for my engine rebuild lol I just want to make sure I do everything the best that I can one time ( fingers crossed). I got the motor mount brackets cleaned and painted up to match the intake and timing cover. I think I’m going to start on the swap tomorrow if I can get the distributor staked. Either way I’m one step closer to being done with this project.

New brakes on all 4 corners, as well as the new Rancho 5000 shocks I put on last week end. Holy moly, drum brakes are frickin ridiculous to repair. Even with the specialty pliers, I used every curse word I know, and made up some new ones.
