Dogs

I thought a cat would be nice because they're independent, but it turned into feeling like a roommate that I had to feed and made my house smell like poop

Every cat owner ever.."my cat doesn't piss in the house I don't smell a thing"..as you gag and don't want to sit on anything.

My mother has cats and those bastards have destroyed her curtains, furniture, carpet, rugs etc..no thanks

You crazy if you think an animal can pee and poop inside not in any water not flush it... and it not smell exactly like that

The wife and I are older now and big dogs are too much. So we have these two little guys. Very well behaved. They have a big yard to play in. Not yappie at all

My wife had a cat and one dog when we got married. Her little dog got along fine with my two boxers at the time. Though one of my boxers wanted to eat her cat, so it had to live upstairs. The cat didn't like this so started peeing on everything. She tried a few things, but ended up putting the cat down.

Once they start peeing on things, you can't keep them if you don't want your house smelling like pee. There's a Poker game I go to in a garage. The whole garage smells like cat pee. You go home with your clothes smelling like it. Just an awful smell.

Wife and I have decided no more cats ever again.

Is the peeing thing a male only cat issue? It seems like my mother's female cats were usually good it was the males that pissed everywhere and tried to destroy her house.

I know my wife's maltese is always sniffing around outside before he poops or pees and I'm assuming he is trying to piss on a scent that isn't his?

Like I said I'm not a pet person and my preference is not to have any but the dog came as a package deal with the wife

We now have just two dogs. two large and one small. I've been around large dogs all my life. Parents had a kennel and used to train German Shepards for police work.
We've had 5 Akitas at one time.

And as for the male cat, if you have them neutered before they start peeing standing up, they normally never acquire that habit.
Neutered somewhere around 5-6 months.

The cat was female. They seem to start peeing if they're upset about something. Another pet, a new child, etc. Once they start doing it, you have to either live with it, or get rid of the animal.

My wife was even attacked by her grandmas cat once. She was pet sitting because her grandma was traveling. She went in to feed it and the cat attacked her. Her grandma put that cat down too.

Regarding the dogs peeing. My golden doodle likes to follow the yorkie outside. Waits for the yorkie to pee, then pees on the same spot. Some sort of territorial thing I guess.
