Hi everyone,

First let me say that I have been lurking on here for several years and have learned so much, I couldn’t even begin to put it into words. Thank you all for making this website so accessible. Anyway, my reason for posting this is I’ve been looking to rebuild or replace the old Ramsey winch that is currently on the front of my 1998 Sahara. It’s been good, but it’s only rated at 6k pounds and I thought something a little bigger might be better. New winches from Ramsey and Warn are hard to justify the price based on the infrequent use of my current winch, so I’ve been searching for something in the classifieds that may need some work as I also could use a new project. I came across a Warn M8000 that seems to be in good shape, worked when it came off the previous vehicle, and Already has a synthetic rope. The bad part is that they cut one of the electrical wires in trying to get it off the previous vehicle because the bolt connecting the wire to the winch was rusted and wouldn’t come loose. Also, it is missing the remote. The guy is asking $300 obo. I’m hoping to get pictures of the cut connector in the morning, and I’ll post pictures when I get them. Given all of this that is currently known, does this seem like a reasonable deal?

Thanks in advance,

Scott

That's what I paid for mine 2 years ago in similar cosmetic condition. Be prepared to go through the thing. Your example has the more modern contactor which is supposed to be better, mine has the older solenoids, but came with a brand new remote.

Thanks for the input! It looks like the F1 connector is pretty corroded, and that’s the wire that was cut.

Yeah, after seeing those last two pictures, I thought it might be less of a good deal. Might have to pass on this one, unless he comes down significantly on the price.

The one on the right looks like it was replaced at some point. Aren't the terminals copper? It may look worse inside. If it won't move with a jumper pack directly on the motor terminals I'd pass. The motor is the most expensive part.
