Daubies at home HEMI conversion

First, really nice work. Really makes me want to get going on mine.
As far as the sound system, maybe start another thread on that.
I think yours was the manual tranny right? Please let us know how much fun that is to drive!

Thank you very much for the compliments.
As I have said before, it took a long time to get to this point to be able to do this, you know had to be the right star alignment and all that other stuff. There was quite some time that I wasn't sure if I ever would get to it.
As far as the sound system, I agree if I do anymore to it I will try to start a new thread. I figured with just changing out the speakers there really wasn't much to show or talk about that hasn't already been covered buy a lot of other great threads, so I thought I would just mention it in a post on this one.
My conversion I'm using the 545rfe automatic transmission. You might be thinking of Gasiper that is doing a 6.1L HEMI swap using the manual transmission.
I still have to finish up the ac lines and also will most likely add a remote oil filter kit at some point. I will keep this updated as I do those things and also as I drive it.

Yeah, it was Gasiper, that's right.
Yeah, definitely let us know how she does, sure is a nice looking install!

Thought I'd give an update.

So I went on about a 15 Mile drive today. First day in a very long time that we've had any decent weather. It was 68°-70° sunny and dry. I did both highway and town driving. This was the first time I've had it out with the "final" air filter setup. I kept an eye on temps the whole time I was driving. The engine coolant was nailed exactly on 183° just like every other time I've had it out no matter what type of driving. The IAT is a different story. While driving at highway speeds it was running about 88°-90°, in town driving it was 105°-120° and sitting at idle for extended period of time it went up to 136°. At this point I don't really know if those numbers are well within expected range or not. I do know that cooler is always better. It seems to run/drive very well and didn't seem like those IAT's were a problem.
I think for the time being I'll leave it like it is and if I think it really should be lower then I'll look into fabing up a heat shield for the filter to try and grab cooler air.
If I wanted to get really crazy I could notch the bottom front right side of the hood right where the filter sits and direct outside air to it. I'm not sure how that would look and might take a bit of work to make it look like it was built that way. I also thought about maybe putting a hood louver right above the air filter, like one of the ones that were on the 1998 Grand Cherokee 5.9.

Just a quick update..

Finally got the time and parts in to build my AC lines and get that finished up.
Hope to get it charged maybe over the weekend and make sure I don't have any leaks. I sure don't anticipate any since all of the lines and seals are new, but anything can happen.

WOW that looks great. I never hooked my A/C back up and sometimes wish I had. With this new intake it'd be next to impossible to do.

Thank you Wildman.
You've been a great supporter for this whole project.
You definitely have a one of a kind power plant that is awesome!!!
Your whole Jeep is awesome..

Thank you.

I watch you guys with the Hemi swaps and have a little envy now & then.... When I first did my swap a Hemi take out was still cost prohibitive for the normal guy. It was the same with LS engines at the time.

You did a very clean job and have a rig to be proud of.

Beautiful job. It looks like a factory install or better. (y) It looks shoehorned in there, is there enough room to do basic maintenance work?

Thank you very much.
That was actually my goal to make it appear as though it came this way from the factory.
In pictures it does look like it is shoved in there and barely fits, but in reality I think there is enough room to do most any maintenance work you would need to do without problems.

Man, I look with envy at all the room he has in there…

🙂

Great work Dauber. It does look very lean.

Yeah, I'm thinking maybe I could relocate the spare to the top of the engine with all the room under the hood. You know, like the older Subarus did.. 🤔🤔

🤪 I might have have a little more room than you do, but I don't have every Jeep gadget known to man under mine either.. 🤪

Thanks Nashville..!!
You were the one who inspired me to spew my business all over the interwebs and bore everyone with my project in my thread here..

Now I'd like to see Jeff's spare under the hood....

You didn't bore 😴 us I can promise you that. It has been a interesting journey and informative 👍 to boot. If I was beginning my swap process now I'd follow all of you Hemi guys over the Magnum. My added challenge would be swapping into a older CCD platform as opposed to the PCI of the newer Jeeps. Heck if god forbid something happens to this engine it still might be in the cards.

Having that host really makes it so much easier and nicer though.

Enjoy the cool air and keep us posted on how everything is working.

Nothing to see here..

Short update.
Had the A/C system recharged yesterday, it held vacuum and charge. Blows very cold. (Is that appropriate to say?)
Still planning on fabing some type of heat shield around the air filter to help with IAT's.

What kind of IAT’s are you getting?

I didn't monitor very close yesterday, but stopped at a light for any length of time I've seen them climb to 130° then drop back down quite a bit after moving a couple of minutes. We've not had any consistent weather here this year to really see what I'll get for "the norm". I know these TJ's are known for high underhood temps even stock. Don't really want to put any hood vents in but we'll see over the course of the summer how it goes. I'm thinking that a shield on the engine side of the filter might help it draw air from underneath and avoid the heated air.
That's an easy enough thing to make and try.

Short IAT update..
Drove it to work. (40 miles, one hour each way) When the OAT was in high 70's and at hiway speed I was seeing 85-92 deg IAT, stopped at a long light or in line at McD's I seen it climb up to 152 deg. once moving it didn't take long to drop back to 90 deg. The ECT stays at a rock steady 183 deg no matter the condition. (very happy with that) I'm assuming that the under hood temps are going to be 180+ deg. So I guess all things considered those IAT's aren't bad but I'm thinking I can do a few things to lower them.

Nashville, what kind of IAT's were you seeing before you went to your cowl intake, and what are you getting now?

I'll keep the updates coming..

My IAT’s were well into the 200’s - but that was with the air intake right on top of the mill. With the cowl, it’s runs within a few degrees of ambient.

Funny, my engine temps run right at 183 as well.

So I'm guessing you are running the 180° thermostat also.
200's is really high which is what I would guess is the under hood temp on top of the motor.
I would like to get mine down to somewhere around 0-10° above ambient would make me happy. Obviously at a standstill it'll go up.
Thanks for the response..

Latest update...

Sent my ECM back to Chris at HotWire to turn off the EGR valve that got missed on the initial setup on my ECM. Got it back a few days later, remounted it, took off the EGR valve and blocked off the EGR hole on the head.

Also ordered a couple of different oil filter relocation kits, so will be installing one of those sometime in the near future. I'll update when that happens.

Nothing real exciting but finally had time to make a new locker pumps bracket so they aren't attached to the skid plate any longer. The only real advantage is that I can drop the skid plate and could even drive it now without the pumps hanging from the lines and wires.
Just bolted the new bracket to the frame in the approximate original location.
