Well my dog Mafia and I jumped in the jeep and drove on down to Tucson, AZ ( from the coast of Maine ) great ride no issues. My son was checking it out and said that is actually a TJ with an X body, not real sure what that means. Also that she originally came ad a standard and someone had put in an automatic transmission. That may explain why imma need to replace that line that goes from the tyranny to the front. I know it leaks a bit I just carry fluid with me. I did replace all the spark plugs before I left hoping to clear the p0301 code it threw. So now that in Tucson I'm wondering if anyone knows of any junkyards I may be able to pick up a few things at? Nothing serious. Also any jeep meets or runs around this part. And why the hell does it seem like I'm the only one here that is going topless?? Lol. Thanks for any info, you're a great bunch of people.

Welcome from South East Arizona. I know of some trails about a hour or so from Tucson. Off of Hwy 83, just north of Sonoita.

Because in the desert we go topless in the Winter! In the Summer we hide from the sun! A sure sign of a newcomer is riding around in a convertible or topless Jeep in the Summer! You'll get over it lol! Welcome to the desert where we have 2 seasons, the warm season and Summer.

I lived here almost 20 years ago, so I made sure to make my own custom sunscreen lol but yes does seem winter would be more appropriate. And me being from Maine, I'll take any good day to take my top off !

When I live here bout 20 years ago, my hubby took me up in the mountains, we'd pan for gold and check out the old mine shafts. I'd love to go back up that way.

Shewwww that's a haul in a TJ.

Welcome to town.

How long you sticking around?

It's gonna get hot. Then start raining in a few weeks.

Look up the Tucson Jeep club on Facebook for the more active events and ride outs etc. Lots of members on there from in town. They mostly like to play duck duck Jeep tho 🥱

Thank you for the welcome! I figure I'll just stick around until whenever, or until 7 year old granddaughter imagine tells me " Grammy it's time to come home " lol prolly a month or so for now. Thanks for the heads up on FB I'll look into that. And yeah, it's already way to freaking hot here for this Maine girl, spending most of my time in the pool so far. I'm planning on finding my way up to a place e called greaterville, up in the Santa Rita mtn area. Found me a junkyard in Tucson specialize in Jeep 4x4 parts, pretty stoked headed there now!

You are most certainly NOT the only Jeep going topless in Tucson. The top has been off the Muddog for WEEKS now, and will not go back on until Monsoon gets here, with any luck, mid July. If you happen to see me around town hollar at me.
Most of the junkyards in town are near DM AFB and TEP, the electric company. You can get to them from Alvernon Way, Exit 265 off I-10, North to Irvington, (TEP will be on your right). Turn right, and that will take you to "Junkyard Row. There's a bunch of them down there.

Haven't made it up in the Santa Rita's yet. I go jeeping off hwy 83 most Wednesdays with another jeep buddy. Mostly moderate trails, you're more than welcome to tag along 🙂

Don't forget about Mt. Lemmon, just an easy hour's drive to the cool pines. Can take a side trip along Bigelow road past all the transmitter towers or start down the back side towards Oracle and San Manuel. Or just go to Rose Canyon Lake and catch some Trout.

Hey B1Toad, maybe some time you can show me that area. I don't know my way around Mt. Lemon.

hmmmm, that might be a nice group trip for Summer. Years ago I use to camp at Rose Canyon Lake but I understand it is much more crowded these days and if you want a spot at some of the campgrounds up there you have to send someone up on Wed or Thurs to hold it.

A nice trip is down the back side, takes a long time though. There's a cave back there too, Peppersauce Cave. Before it burned there was an old bar behind the lodge that had live music, had many good times there both Summer and Winter.

You spend much time in the Chiricahuas?

I've been up on the Chiricahua's one time when I had my Gladiator. Plan to explore it more, probably sometime after October. You gave me a lot of information about that area awhile ago. These days I'm mostly interested in day trips out of Sierra Vista.
