Just a quick note on the Warn VR, Warn's budget entry level winch. I actually have two of these, one on my "other" 4x4 and the VR EVO on my TJ. These are basic units with wire rope and all. On my annual Veterans Day run with my kids we found a new trail that was a real challenge at least for us. My Rubi was locked up and was still struggling. Had to pull cable and it worked flawlessly, the wireless remote was very handy. First winch recovery for the TJ and I was very happy to have a Warn on the front bumper. My son's Roxer with open diffs did not fair as well. Anyway even a budget Warn is worth it!! IMG_0300.JPGIMG_0302.JPG

I see a lot of people talk against the warn vr winches. It seems none of them have firsthand knowledge of any failures with the VR series. How is yours holding up?

Cannot beat an older Warn 8 or 9 or 9.5, plenty of used ones in TX. Be patient and buy a good one.

They last for ever, if taken care of. I could be wrong. D

Also have a warn vr10s on my jeep and it’s never skipped a beat in the 20ish times I’ve needed it and was able to use it. Even in the winter one day it was in the negative 20ish degrees I was able to pull multiple people multiple times without an issue in some deep snow.
There is a recall on the wireless remotes for the vr series. They ask you to cut the battery out and use it as a wired only remote till they can give you a new one. I just received a new wired only remote to replace the recall remote and I’ve have been told by warn I will still get a new wireless remote once production has them to give out. Wasn’t expecting a recall on my warn even tho it’s a China assembled one but warn has done very well in making it right. I also will now have 2 remotes over just one and will keep the recall one just incase too which is nice.

Mine is doing fine!! Probably used it 6-10 times. There is a recall on the wireless remote I guess but I have heard nothing from WARN. I want to switch to synthetic winch line but am waiting for WRG to put some out in the field.
