I'm about to pull my hair out. OK! So, 2004 LJ with LED rear tails but has some diode dynamics inline LED "filter" of some sort wired in and have not had any issues with it. It has LED headlights and I cut spliced and soldered new headlight plugs in so I know the wiring etc is good. Here is what happened.
Yesterday I removed the cluster to swap LED bulbs into it. I took the cluster out and and installed LED bulbs on the work bench. I went back to the Jeep several times and removed/re-installed the bulb sockets to orient the polarity. On the last socket, I twisted the cluster up out of the way and installed the last socket. While I was moving the cluster, I started hearing a loud buzzing noise. I looked and could not located it but it sounded like it was coming from the dash area. I got in and started the Jeep and it worked. The buzzing quit. I tried the horn, headlights etc and they all worked so I walked away.
Just now I went to the store for trans fluid. I noticed my turn signals weren't working so I pulled over. The brake lights weren't working either. The hazard button was activated the whole time but I had no hazards working. I turned it off and checked and I have brake lights. I brought it home and checked fuses. Dash "Turn signal" fuse is good. I looked under the hood and there is a 20A fuse for MFS (Multi-function switch) and that fuse was blown. I replaced the fuse with a new 20A fuse. Started the Jeep and tried the turn signals and hazard switch. Nothing. I go back under the hood and the same MFS fuse is blown.
What the hell did I break while moving the cluster around? Could it have fried the MFS if I had one of the 2 plugs disconnected from cluster and accidentally engaged the hazard lights or a turn signal while moving the cluster around?
