Rock Slider Recommendations for 06 LJ

Do yourself a favor. Even if the Savvy sliders are on backorder, wait for them. I've installed several sliders and the design, coverage, weight, and strength is as good as it gets. Even if they're more money, it's a decision you won't regret later!

It sucks that we don't have a good slider option available (at least I can't find one I like).

Savvy is continuously unavailable, Genright mini-boatsides cost an inordinate amount with an inferior design, JCR costs more than Savvy and yet requires extensive modification.

One could try an alternative option, but the prospect of tub damage and later redrilling more holes for better sliders is dreadful.

Just wait for Savvy. They come back in stock occasionally...hopefully when they do, you can jump on it. The JCR's have some major flaws in the design. They are able to fixed, kinda, but even fixed, I feel they are less than optimum.

With the Savvy slider, the aluminum plate wraps around the tub and is fastened to the side and bottom. The "step" or whatever you want to call it is bolted to the aluminum. The aluminum backer holds the 90 degree angle from the side of the tub to the bottom. On the JCR, the design looks similar, but the backing plate is flat and is installed to the side of the tub. Then the step is bolted on and that is what wraps around to the bottom of the tub. So, the only thing really keeping a 90 degree corner there is the 4 or 5 5/16" bolts that hold the step to the backing plate.

That being said, I've not had any issues with mine (after I "fixed" them). I also don't wheel in the rocks nearly as much as I'd like...I've hit them and sat the jeep down on them, but nothing like what I've see shown from the threads out west.

Sounds like it is a pain to own a TJU.

That seems like a pretty important feature. I wonder if anyone’s ripped though their tub with the design of the unmodified JCRs.

Similarly, I’m not sure whether the Savvy’s features will matter for where I wheel… until they do..

I know people who wheel in narrow spots and lots of rocks have good reasons for not wanting the Genright tube on their slider, but if I was doing it again, I’d just pony up for the mini-boat sides and not look back
 
Said out of jealousy. That 103" WB is 🔥

Ah I gotcha. I mainly wheel with “short” Jeeps, who can’t resist commenting every time I do a 3 point turn where they just squeeze by.

But besides ponying up for tops, corner armor, sliders, and dealing with the breakover angle and turning radius, it’s pretty nice 😁

I know people who wheel in narrow spots and lots of rocks have good reasons for not wanting the Genright tube on their slider, but if I was doing it again, I’d just pony up for the mini-boat sides and not look back

I came close to getting the mini-boat sides.

Then I added up the total cost with corner armor, and it ended up being close to $2300

I’ve been considering welding the step to the backing plate. I was going to hit you up, just haven’t got around to it.

I don’t think I’d do that. That would cause a ton of frustration if you were trying to remove them, I think.

Nothing would change on the tub and torque box mounts. They would just be heavy.

The better idea is to sell them and fab some up.

Or just stay with them. They are ok. But technically only the backing plate is ww2ww.

Those have been discussed in the main rock slider thread. Overall seems good but from what I can gather from reading what other thought, those need more bolts attaching to the tub.

Just heads up, check the shipping cost. I went to price them out and they were nearly $400 to me which brings me up to the price of other sliders that usually have free shipping

What about making your own mini boat sides? Seems the design of the single sheet is very reasonable to cut and then bend if you have those means. Then run like an aluminum rub rail on the top section of it rather than the step or nothing at all?

Several folks on the forum are doing just that actually. Haven’t seen any final pictures but I bet they’ll pop up this summer
