I just got one for my 2003,,,

It might be an older version TJ,

I’m looking for info on the differences and how to make it fit if it’s the older version...

Do you know what it would take to make an older one work ?

Nothing needs to be done to make it work, an older one will bolt right on.

The only physical differences that I know of is that the 03-06 frames have a few extra slots on the inside of the frame for the new upper trim moldings to clip into.

I just went through putting a frame on my 04 from a 98. Its not exactly bolt up. Externally, yes...but the visors are different, the trim is different, the rear view mirror is different, etc.

Glad to have some real world input on it. So it does bolt up, but there's some cosmetics to deal with then?

Yeah, I documented my changes when I installed it. Wasn't terrible, but it did take a bit to get everything set up. The important stuff stayed the same but all the trim is different, as is the header seal. I intend to do a "how-To" but haven't gotten around to it yet.

I was about to say, a "how-to" might be helpful, because even with a Google search, I didn't find anything 100% conclusive on it.

Why didn't you look for an 03-06 frame? Are they just a lot harder to find?

I did. For some reason when you find them they are very expensive. The guy I got my frame from said something about the design of the later model ones cause them to rust out (as evidenced by the fact that I had to replace mine). I paid 250 for the frame, trim, sun visors, good glass and decent paint. I repaired a couple of stone chips. The cheapest I could find a late model was about 400 bucks + shipping, and it would not have included glass.

I bought one for my ‘97 from Crown for $120 last fall. I had to have it painted too so there was an additional cost. I live in the Rust Belt and didn’t want one from a junk yard that was gonna have the same issues in six months.

Did it fit okay? Sometimes the Crown stuff is hit or miss in terms of fitment.

Quadratec has the raw frame for 03-06 for $350..... from Key Parts.

That would be a viable option if you can swap all the rubber and trim etc. from your existing frame.
