We collect a lot of bug juice on our windshield, was wondering if any one has tried the hood mounted deflector and the best one to use.planning long trip to mountains from north central Texas in July. Thank you for your response.

wish I could help ya but never used one. just based on the shape of the jeep, vertical windshield and limited width of a bug deflector, does not seem like any of them would be very effective but cant speak from experience. curious to see the responses..

I have one on mine, and it pleasantly surprised me with how effective it was.

Rugged Ridge 11350.01 Smoke Wrap Around Bug Deflector

I don't know how effective it'll be with bugs (yet), but does reduce wind noise a little on the highway. It doesn't interfere with the hood, and only uses double-sided tape to attach.

I have an AVS one, fits pretty good, but I installed it mostly to hide the hundreds of rock chips my hood has :-D

So, do deflectors work? Because my windshield is getting obliterated by bugs!

Maybe I have just had back luck with bug deflectors, but every one I have ever had (on PU trucks) just creates wind turbulence, makes my mirrors shake, and does little or nothing to keep bugs and crap off my windshield. Oh and causes some kind of damage to the leading edge of my hood...

my TJ crawls, normally bugs even avoids hitting it :(

So it sounds like at best, YMMV and at worst, they do nothing for bugs and make the ride worse.

I took my original one off after a couple years of not seeming to help. No change post-removal.
I'm glad to hear it does help some folks.
I expect that I'll assassinate a good number of bugs by pushing a rectangle of glass down the road at up to 65mph. Night is the worst.
I also am a guy who cleans the windshield frequently, so I don't see a lot of accumulation. I kind of figure bug splats and windshield replacements is another Jeep thing.
I guess if I lived in a land of love bugs, like when we lived in Florida, I'd try anything!
