After 9 years, finally got around to swapping the tailgate back to the OE one. While I liked the "look" of the CJ tailgate, contrary to belief, its just not functional. After stabbing myself in the gut and thighs reaching for gear many times over the years with that thing laying down, I've had enough. It was pretty much useless for anything other than making a sandwich on or beverage placement. If you look close the outer sheet metal is inversely dented from years of thinking I could sit on it or stand on it. (It is an OE CJ-7 tailgate that was perfect when I got it). Still have to add the hinge trim, but I'm playing around with the aluminum finish. AND I did start the painful process of prepping/painting my hood.

I'm not surprised to hear that about the CJ tailgate. Every so often someone will post a question about wanting to covert to a fold down tailgate. I always try to convince them otherwise, based off what you and several others have said. It seems like the swing open tailgate is indeed the best solution for the TJ.

6.0-LS2 What most people don't realize is this engine is 75-80lbs lighter fully dressed than the 4.0. And probably a little more since I don't have AC currently. And then there is the 190hp of the 4.0 vs the 405hp of the LS2:D

If I do a V8 swap (which I may do when the kids get a little older and are all in school), I plan on doing an LS swap for that very reason. It's lighter, has plenty of power, etc.

I figure something like that should set me back about 10k.

Windshield. I love that it uses a single row and fits between the window and the top. With all of the branches we have here I think it could be a safe addition.

Poison Spyder, for a Rigid 50". Just a word of caution. I tried Genright, PS and a few others. They all fit like crap and require a lot of tweaking to look somewhat decent. I mainly wanted them for windshield frame protection, but I got that light bar over 6-7 years ago when they first came out.....before light bars were cool :D.

I personally don't like the light bar look on a Jeep (apparently unlike everyone else) but I do have a desire for more lighting. Thanks for the heads up on the other brands I wish PS made it in aluminum though.

I actually may be removing it, but it's just not of any priority right now. I actually had some aluminum GR "iirc" ones back in the day, and they too fit like crap. That 12" Vision X led bar I had on the bumper before was actually all I ever needed even on the darkest of nights out in the middle of the desert.

Good to know.
