Would you?

I wouldn't..... But my life style is probably different then yours. I need to haul things with a pick and haul things off road (firewood etc). I don't have kids at home so a don't need a larger 4 door vehicle.... plus I don't like that color. My 2 cents.

The Civic, heck ya. The Taco, probably but that would be just a bit more difficult. I am not a JKhater though. The replies to this ought to run the gamut.

Not looking at that specific color per se (although the wife likes it), just one like that model, or a 2015. I might really miss the truck...

I guess I would like input from those whose significant other drives a JKU...

Qualifiers:
2012 Civic bought used in 2013, now has 66k.
2013 Tacoma access cab 4x4 bought new in 2013, now has 16k.

I traded my wife's Dodge Journey for a 15 JKUR. Her Journey had all the bells and whistles so the JKU had to have at least remote start and heated seats. I don't think she'll ever use the axel lock or sway bar disconnect buttons though.

You have to keep the taco haha. Those are so reliable. Personally not a fan of the 4 door model, but wives do love them.

When we were in the market for a JKU back in 2014 to replace the wife's old Suzuki XL7 we ended up getting a new JKU. We kept looking for a good used one but the price were so high that we ended getting a brand new 2014 for 30k.

Do you need the 4-doors? I not, why not an LJ?

Never! Cannot abide 4 doors on a Jeep.

I’ve had 4 Hondas & currently daily drive a Subie, LOVE 4 cylinder Japanese cars, they’re cheap, ubiquitous, run forever, sip gas & never break so they’re perfect for burning up the hum drum miles of life (work, grocery store…), the proverbial hot chick that turns into a cheeseburger & 6-pack at midnight.

Also, living in the rustbelt my TJ has high blood pressure so I have it on a strict no-salt diet so while the Sube soaks up all the snow/ice/salt the TJ stays healthy in the garage

Have owned two JKUs, a 2011 which was a dog and a 2013 with the 3.6 which was a race car compared to the 2011. At about 25,000 miles the 2013 developed the infamous knock in cylinder two and that was replaced under warranty. Wife loved the JKU and did not want to sell it; however it was our family vehicle that we also used on trips. At 70-80 mph on the highway it was like pushing a mattress sideways down the road, not to mention the 14mpg. We ultimately traded it in for a 2015 Outback. Again, we really liked the JKU, but can now fulfill the Jeep fix with the TJ.

@DC0046 we also use the JKU as a family vehicle for vacations etc.. We drive up to New Hampshire from Florida every year during winter break. We usually replace the family vehicle every 5 years but this JKU will not be traded in instead my daughter will get it when the time comes for a new car.

Personally I wouldn't sell my truck because I need it to haul the dogs, kids, gear, ect. But since your considering it clearly you decided you could live without it. If that is the case then I would definitely sell both cars and get the wife the JKU. I think everyone should get to drive a car that makes them smile each time they drive it. Just hope the bug doesn't hit her to badly. You can go broke fast building to wranglers at once.

I wouldn't... only because a truck would be handy, and I wouldn't be able to fight the urge of dumping more money into another Jeep, haha!

Lots of nice input so far, thanks to everyone for chiming in...this is not a must-do project, I was just considering the change.

More qualifiers:

The Tacoma is a great truck. I have not had any issues (shouldn't, considering it is 5 years old, with 16k on the odo) at all with it. It comes in handy when I need a truck, I just haven't needed it for hauling much. Also, it's just me, my wife, and our two tiny dogs. I have had at least 4 Toyota trucks, and none of them were any problem at all. The current Tacoma gets around 19 mpg., which I love. All of these things also make it very sellable also.

The Civic has also been trouble free. It developed an oil leak around 30k, but that was fixed under warranty. Just oil changes since owning it. It's only issue is my wife had a Rav4 previously, and she sits quite a bit lower in the Civic than she did in the Rav4, and her eyesight is diminishing. She would like a vehicle where she sits up higher and can see better. The JKU was my idea.

It sounds like I would be better served selling the Civic and looking for a used SUV that she would like better...

The thing that concerns me most is the issues some have had with the JKUs. My luck, I would end up with one of those.

I think that's a great idea. My wife has the 2015 Honda CRV that she bought new and loves it. I like it too. We also have a Tacoma that is a great truck for so many different things.

Funny you should say that - my wife had a CRV some years ago she just loved. It got totalled in an accident, and she's missed it ever since.

My wife also drives a crv. We got it after her civic got broadsided. Funny thing is we were considering selling the civic and insurance gave us 3k more then we were hoping for.
