Need opinions on this TJ I'm looking to purchase

To me the manual vs auto issue is a preference for the driver to decide and not an issue to argue about, only to be informed about!

And auto guys should learn to drive with two feet if they haven’t already.

I drove 'with two feet' all my adult life, and switched in 2015. Won't look back.

I should have qualified my statement, “on the rocks,” though reaction time is faster for two-foot drivers in any scenario.

Well, I have to agree with Jerry. All my first 10 Jeeps, including the 2007 Rubicon, were manuals. I tried more challenges than I thought I might with those manual Jeeps, and was generally successful. But I finally got tired of the 'two-foot watusi' and got an auto. My enjoyment of the trails went up exponentially. As you say, though, to each their own.

Just for clarification, I mean auto drivers should learn to drive an AUTO with two feet. ;)

Funny story (to me) i broke my clutch linkage (old pick up) and freaked out my friends when i was still able to get it home. Tossed it in first with the engine off. Started the engine to get going and the ots an easy day shifting at the right rpms. Non of them could even imagine that you dont need a clutch to shift gears. I have owned many of manual vehicles and only use the clutch a third of the time. Mostly down shifting and starting and stopping
Now this is normal roads not wheeling.

I used to shift without the clutch on almost every shift before I replaced my transmission (the synchros were blown out of the old one so I didn't bother with the clutch). Certainly a useful skill to have if your clutch ever fails (wish I had known how to drive without the clutch when mine blew the line off the master cylinder).

And in terms of the auto vs manual debate, autos are for cheaters. :)

I just started driving truck today after 20 years. After the 4am shift I'm driving my Jeep home and constantly starting the shifts without the clutch. But a gas engine is not the same as a diesel. So I usually use the clutch going into gear. 8 hours of driving without the clutch catches you off guard at noon coming home.

I'm getting up toward 50 and the only time I don't like using the clutch is after playing a couple grueling soccer matches. Mr Charley Horse tends to come to visit on my way home, lol.

Well, it has some good upgrades, however I would be concerned about the comment "very little rust". With it being from that part of the country, and a '99, I would be wary of alot of rust. You really need to see pictures of the rust prone areas and do a very good inspection of those areas. Even as far as tapping them with a small hammer. If the rust is not a problem I would then look for a price reduction, $11,500 seems high to me.

St. Louis doesn’t really have a lot of ice/salt. Seeing the rear diff it looks true that there is little rust. You may have to deal with the notorious fender rust but the frame is what you truly care about. $11,500 is fair but I would offer $9.5k - $10.5k. Great find btw!
