Wranglerfix PCM versus the others

And the late 90s were notorious for bad caps.
That is one of my favorite intellectual property theft stories ever. A gent who worked at a company that built stellar capacitors stole the recipe and sold it to a lot of competitor companies. Someone was acutely aware that it might happen so the whole recipe was not able to be stolen, just 99.9% of it. The little bit that was left out made capacitors with short lifespans. We all paid for that dishonesty across millions of electronic devices. My buddy who refurbs VCR machines replaces several bad caps a week. He is not nearly as amused as I am.

I have an '05 LJR with the 6 speed manual and the PCM started acted up while I was 6 hours or so from home in Moab. I think it had maybe 120K on it at the time. It was stalling and sometimes not restarting right away. The gauges were dropping out and coming back. I knew from posts on this forum that the symptoms were pointing to a PCM issue. After reseating the connectors, it started behaving but I figured I was on borrowed time and might not make it home.

While waiting for a group ahead of me on Top of the World, I called Mark at Wrangler Fix. He pretty much confirmed that my PCM was on its way out. So I talked to a guide with a commercial group on the trail and got the OK to have a PCM shipped to their address in Moab. After ordering a new PCM from Mark, I completed Top of the World where my profile pic was taken and also won ROTY!

Meanwhile, Mark took a PCM off the shelf, tested it in his Jeep, then overnight shipped it to me in Moab. I picked it up the next day at one of the local Moab businesses. I didn't need to install the new PCM on the trip and made it home OK. I think an extremely cold night in Moab might have triggered my PCM issues. Regardless, I installed the new WF PCM shortly after getting home and it's been working flawlessly for years since then.

I used to think only the PCMs in auto trans vehicles had issues. Not so.

If you need a PCM, get one from Mark.

Ok, all the wrangler fix positive reviews

Whats the reason for buying from wrangler fix VS some if the other vendors that sell replacements, some about the same price and others cost much less but with sending in a core.

What do you really get
My understanding is no performance changes

Do you wait till you have problems

1100.00 is alot of insurance with only a 2 year warranty for probabilities of failure

Trying to decide what to do as mine us not a daily driver and has no current issues ( knock on wood)

Every time I hear "life time warrantee" this is all I can think of
Most folks have a misunderstanding of what a normal lifetime guarantee actually is. They expect a lifetime supply. Particularly common in the context of axle gears. I've worked with several over the years that had a lifetime guarantee. Across the board, the customer expected to be able to go out and blow up gear sets 2-3 times a year and get them replaced for free because they believe it is a lifetime supply, it isn't. It usually means if the parts are defective, they will replace them once. Most will replace them twice with the second being a courtesy along with a clear warning that you need a bigger axle.

@mrblaine and @Wranglerfix are two people/companies I know that you will never have to worry about getting a bad product or lack of customer service to fix issues ASAP. It's a shame everyone doesn't share their integrity and work ethic. 🇺🇸

This is so true, Sunday I placed and order with @mrblaine for an extra set of pads for my parts stock, knowing that Monday was Labor Day. Monday i get an email saying my order was ready and waiting pick up.

That's customer service!!!!!!!!!

When BB was going into limp mode, I sent Mark @Wranglerfix a screenshot of what codes I had, he said send it back a I'll take care of it, I didn't need to send it in as my issue was rubbed/chaffed wiring.

That's customer service!!!!!!!

It is a sad state of affairs if what should be normal business methods are considered anything other than just normal.
