A little more work on the wiring over the past few days.
First up, adding a fuse for the new fuse box. I picked up this heavy duty fuse mount and a 250 amp fuse. After considering a bunch of locations as close to the battery as possible, I settled on the firewall just above the A/C and Heater hose. But the place I wanted to mount it is not flat, so I deeded to make a plate. Looking though my metal bin I found a perfect piece - I did not even have to cut it. It matched the contour of the block perfectly. Who'da thunk?

Tell us more! How long have you been holding on to it? What was the original use?

Oh yeah, congrats on the grandkids too.
Being that I model and analyze structure all day (currently I mostly review other people's designs and analysis and provide final approvals). I have no desire to go home and design and model on a computer which is why the garage (with no computer) is my relaxation. For me the last thing i would want to do is fire up solidworks at home to work on my jeep. It is where I practice just old school fabrication which I think probably helps me see the techs perspectives a little more at work. But it is interesting to see what you are all doing with the fusion software and the 3d Printers as a hobbyist. I don't want to do it, but it is pretty cool to see.
A quick little project on the rig today.
I run the factory carpet - 22 years and going strong. I also run heavy rubber-like floor mats in the front. They generally stay in place fairly well, using those stock hook thingies on the carpet in the driver's and passenger's foot wells. But the passenger side thingy broke off a little while ago, and the driver's side gave up the ghost this week. So to correct it, this morning I took the nuclear option and bolted them down.
A couple of quick pilot holes through the mat, the carpet, and the floor, then a bigger hole in the floor, and then my nutsert setting tool (one of my favorite tools). When I set nutserts in bare metal I always use a bit of silicone to seal them to help avoid any rust. That works better than paint in my experience.

To make installing the mats easier, I made the access holes in the mats and the carpet fairly big. Pro-Tip (OK, Hack-Tip): When I make holes in carpet, I never try to drill or cut them. The best way I have found is to heat up a punch and burn the hole in. Very clean, and seals the edges to keep the carpet from unraveling.

And just like that - no more movement. It's also pretty quick to spin out the screws to remove the mats when necessary.
