A Story of Indecision and Frivolous Spending

Installed the SpeedoHealer today. If only everything was that simple! Took me maybe 10 minutes tops (if that).

My speedo was reading 70 mph when my actual GPS speed was 60 mph.

All is better now, the shift points seem better as well. All-in-all, I couldn't be happier! Nice to know my speedometer finally matches my actual speed!

How do you determine the shift points being better? Just by feel or did you see the revs change to a better range before/after the speedohealer install when the transmission shifts?

Just by feel, but it’s obvious enough to know it’s not in my head. Plus, the owner of SpeedoHealer did confirm for me that the shift points are controlled by both RPM and speed, so since my speed was off, the shift points weren’t entirely accurate either.

That is by far one of the best TJs I have ever seen. I am very partial to Khaki myself and found a little trickle of drool running down my cheek just now :)

I appreciate that, thank you! I am quite fond of Khaki as well, it's a really nice, subtle color.
 
Quick update: I was able to get the fuel gauge working again with the help of @zebra12 AGAIN.

Not sure why it didn't work in the first place since everything was hooked up right. We dropped the tank (which BTW, I'll never do that again with a full tank of gas... literally full), took the fuel pump assembly out, and monkeyed around with the float sensor a bit. Put it back in, plugged the pump in, and sure enough it worked.

All I can figure is that maybe it just somehow got stuck the first time around. The moral of the story here is that when you swap out the fuel pump (or fuel tank), BEFORE you put the tank back up, plug the fuel pump in and have someone turn the ignition to the accessory position to see if the fuel gauge works.

Anyways, coming up next will be outboard rear shocks and Savvy mid-arm.

I hate when that happens. The first time I took apart my front diff to fix the axle seal I didn't know the toothpick trick to get the signal wire on the locker to work properly. So after putting the whole thing back together I had to remove it all again.

Glad you got it working.

Yep, it's a pain in the butt when you have to learn from your mistakes. I've dropped the tank on my TJ so many times now (first time was for the Rokmen skid) that I feel like I could do it with my eyes closed.

Having removed the wheel wells makes it a lot easier too!

So far I am only at 2 times for the tank. Once for the bumper and once for the skid. But between the front axle SEALS and Rubicon Dana 44 swap I can do it blindfolded as well. I had it apart last week and I changed the hose and clamps for the lockers for good measure. With any luck I will be done with it for a while.

I feel your pain. I thought about installing that RubiCrawler myself, but even being at 5.25" of lift on 35s, there still isn't enough room under there for me to want to crawl around on my back trying to get that transfer case out, then the tail end of the transmission out.

If I had a lift it would be a lot easier, but at this point I think I'll just pay someone to install it for me. The guys who did my gears said they can install it for about $900 and it would take a day or two at most.

Without a helping hand that would be a tough job. I wish I could put a Rubicrawler in mine. Since I have a 5 speed an atlas is really the only way to go. I would probably get a 5:1. I'm torn whether to keep building mine at this point or to swap over to a rubi lj. It's all @tomtaylz fault :p. But like I told him my jeep needs to make it complete the Rubicon trail before I could even consider it. To much blood equity into this one to unload it now.

I couldn’t even think of selling mine because at this point there’s so much time and money into it that nothing else could replace it unless it was another TJ or LJ built even more than mine is.

I also don’t want to start over again. I learned that lesson with my Black TJ Rubicon, and I won’t go there again. Starting over from scratch sucks... big time!

I should just order the atlas and chromoly shafts. That way I'll be past the point of no return :meparto:. I could always add a cargo rack so I could fit a cooler to make up the extra space of the LJ.

You should! I think the point of no return for me is probably the RubiCrawler.

I would do a cargo rack, or what I do is use a cargo rack that mounts to a receiver hitch on the rear. That actually works out great when we have taken long trips with all of us in the Jeep.

Haha, you're right, I really should.

Ooo I have been looking for some savvy control arms. Actually would really be interested in buying.

I'll give you first dibs if you want them when when I remove them. I've got to order a Savvy mid-arm kit first and have it installed, so it might be a few months. The Savvy kits say they are on backorder for some reason.
