Hi guys (and gals) I've been lurking around the forum for a few weeks now. After 20 years of pining, I found a lovely TJ, broke down and got my very first Jeep. I'm lucky in that it didn't have a ton of miles on it, the frame is sound with minimal rust, and it's been pretty well maintained.

Having said that, I will be looking for advice! She's got just over 100K on her and I have already done a brake job. I'm looking at taking a weekend to tackle the U-joints, but ... I'm sure there's more that needs to be done.

Looking forward to getting into this one!

Sure thing! (and Hi.) the profile pic is the ride I've got ... not bad lookin' for a 21 year old car, I think.

20 years? Wow! That's a long time to be yearning for a TJ. I'll bet you're wondering why you didn't do it sooner, huh?

These things are addicting, so just get ready to empty your wallet!

It's really been a cashflow/find the right one thing. Lots of people overcharging for total rust buckets around here, and I started driving on a little Geo tracker (lots of fun, get you into a lot of trouble and boy, do they catch air) but yeaaahhh.... I'm sure me and the purple Jeeper eater are going to burn through some cash.

I've noticed a lot of people over changing for those East Cost / Midwest rust buckets too. It's quite absurd what some of them want for a TJ that looks like it's on the verge of falling apart.

They're nuts. I lucked out with this one. Snatched it up within a few hours of the guy posting it for sale and drove two hours to look at it. Meanwhile, across town, someone more local was asking half again for an older Wrangler with twice as many miles.

Funny, brings back fond memories from when I sold it, friends asked "where did the Purple People Eater go?". See this thread for more picks

apparently he didn't like the color.
Nether did I much but the dealer wouldent let up on me, eventually he offered a hard top with full doors including the 1/2 doors and soft top for the same retail price as the standard sport, I couldn't resist.

Once the black wheels went on the hole picture changed, people just loved that car.

So what's her name? Will it be the...

Hi Kathy! it's always fun to play in the mud - doesn't matter who plays too, right?

Wombat - I was honestly looking for red or yellow, but hey. It had all the mechanical stuff right and worst case scenario, I have a paint booth. lol

No name yet. We were going back and forth about 'Purple Jeeple Eater' and pretty much anything but. Hubby has no opinion on it - not a Jeep fan. He did love the tracker though - that was the General Gene (since it flew like the General Lee and had a Gene Simmons tire cover)

*I am cracking up so hard* Yeah, this is probably the first I've seen like this around here. And I love it. It already has an 'I <3 Hawkeye' bumper sticker on it. So I'm embracing the purple. (I had a purple mohawk last year, so we're good.)
