So my 2000 has had a low speed first gear acceleration rattle for awhile. I did some forum digging as well as sliding under the Jeep to wiggle a few things. I'm pretty sure I've isolated to the transfer case linkage/bad bushings stemming back to This 20 year old TSB.

Here's where I'm having trouble deciding. I can purchase the $13.00 repair kit which gets lackluster reviews and sounds like a PITA to install. Or I can just upgrade to the $180 Novak shift cable which seems to be a fairly straightforward install for the Youtube views I've watched, but I'm not positive.

I don't shift into 4x4 or wheel frequently enough that the stock linkage is problematic or I feel I need to upgrade. I'm actually just looking for path of least resistance to do the repair. If the Novak cable saves me 2 hours of my time and I get the bonus of a solid modification, I'm on board. However if anyone has done the new bushings and can attest to it being easy/holding up just fine, I'll gladly go that route too.

Opinions welcomed!

Do the savvy and move on , you can actually ruin a transfer case with a bad linkage.
