Is the copper tube in the carrier bearing area supposed to be rotating? Just picked it up from installation.

Definitely not. I suspect you have a bad bearing causing the manifold for that copper line to pop out. Or..best case, the copper line snapped at the manifold

Nope. Been a long time since I installed one but it should be held tight by the housing just like the bearing race. If that is indeed the case, there is not enough carrier bearing pre-load. You need to take it back to the installer.

Definitely not right. The manifold is part of the shim pack and should be much tighter.

Hard no, bet the installer forgot the arb master shim, if so, hopefully he hasn't lost it or he won't be able to do the setup correctly. Does he have a boss who knows what he's doing? I think your gears were set by the oil change kid.

There must have been a time
when we could have said no.

The installer should be fired for doing such a half-assed job. That's a major screw-up.

It should not be moving like that. Im going to guess this was setup by someone who just isnt firmiliar with a ARB install, or just human error. Just by a judgment, as you move your yoke, your backlash does not appear to be sloppy, which leads me to believe the installer used setup bearings, and did all the normal means necessary to properly set up a new carrier. To say he should be fired is just ridiculous. Approach them like a human, i bet you have a chance with a good result. Depending on location, it can be difficult to hire a set up guy to do this. Been there, and then eventually learned diff building for myself.

Thanks for everyone's input! I've done many sets of Gears myself, and would have had no problem doing it, but the ARB I was not familiar with so I handed it over to someone that's done a bunch of them. Apparently The Apprentice does most of the work now.....

Not enough carrier preload?

Dont forget to grind out the drain slots otherwise you'll have gear oil puking out the breather tube in no time.

Along with what everyone else has said, for the 30, you really need more preload than one thinks is prudent. About the only way to keep them alive. If you pop the other cap off, I'll bet you can roll that one right out of the housing with your hands and that isn't good.

No where near enough pre-load. The carrier should fit very tightly inside the housing and take a good amount of effort to remove. If you have done gears there is no reason to take it back. Just fix the pre-load as necessary.

Yeah I am tempted to, but at this point I just want someone competent to finish it. Between business and family there's not a lot of spare time to go around.
