It should be fine. That waterline isnt very high at all. Beemers are packed with electronics, but nothing important is mounted that low.

If water got inside, remove the rug, disconnect the battery and leave the doors open. Check the fluids (oil, trans, diff) to see if any water got in, and change it if it did.

You'll be fine.

They tried to crank it this morning. Just kinda rrrrd and clicked. I know there is all kinds of electric things under the spare in the trunk

She’s in a rental til Ins looks at it. She’s happy cause the rental is what she wants next

That car has 206k on it and would be paid off soon[emoji849]

I don’t know what the payout would be totaled. Hoping for more than I think it’s worth. We shall see I guess.

My wife had a 2006 civic that we were planning on selling in the near future. After doing my homework I figured on a good day I could get $6,500 for it. A few weeks later she got t-boned by a teenager. (At low speeds) Insurance totaled it out and gave us $9,500. So there is hope you will get more then you think. Look at dealer prices not private party.

I would imagine a bmw with 200k+ miles won't take much to total out.

You sure it didn't suck up a bunch of water? Intake could be behind the bumper.

There must have been a time
when we could have said no.

I’m not sure of anything. I wasn’t there when it happened or what they went to clean out the car before the salvage guys picked it up for the Ins company

From what they described to me everything electronically seemed to function it just won’t turn over

My dumb ex tried to drive our car through an area of the neighborhood that for years was known to flood deep. The sad part was my 14 year old (at the time) son was telling her to stop and don’t drive through it. He said she told him to be quiet that she knew what she was doing. She must have hit it fast cause he said water came up over the windshield as was running down the side windows, until it stalled. It blew out a chunk of the back side of the aluminum block a little smaller than the size of a tennis ball.

The look on her face when my son started telling what actually happened was priceless.

Insurance replaced the motor. It was only 3 years old and about 30k on it at the time.

A Judge eventually replaced her. LOL.

I still have the car and the chunk of the engine block.

Yeah, it wasn’t like she was trapped. She could have taken 3 other streets to get to the same place.

A few years ago my wife was faced with a similar situation when on her way home from work when we had major flooding in Toronto. She didn't have the option to turn back though as the road was devided and blocked with traffic. Someone went through in another lane at speed and did something similar to your ex. My wife decided to use what she remembered from doing deep water crossings in the jeep (although this time she was driving her mini) and just go slow and steady to stay with the bow wave... She made it home no problem except for a missing license plate. ;)

The water line may not look that deep as the car sits but while driving through it, sends a wave up over engine bay.....not good.

I just recently had a vehicle totalled, made out just fine, nicer replacement vehicle for same price.

Endless rain in the east creating havoc.

Well from the research I’ve done it seems the ins payout for a total is higher than the value I’m thinking. Which would be good for her getting another vehicle

A few years back my then-girlfriend (now wife) was out with friends and I got a call that she'd fallen, dislocated her elbow, and possibly broken her arm. It was raining hard and I lived on a low street, but I raced out into my Chrysler 300, backed out of the driveway, and want to play white knight. I made it to the end of the driveway and hydro'd the engine when I tried to get it into drive to head down the street. Water was deeper than I thought. The worst part was my Jeep was in the driveway, but was blocked in by the 300. I pushed the 300 off to the side (interior never flooded, btw) and drove the Jeep instead. The other worst part is when I got to her, they'd popped her elbow back in and she decided to stay out. Yes, I married her anyway.

The best part was that Geico agreed to replace the engine if I paid 30% to account for new-for-old replacement. I worked my way up through Geico explaining that the engine had a lifetime warranty, so it wasn't really through 30% of its useful life to me. As far as I was concerned it had an infinite mileage expectation. They actually agreed and let me contribute $500 towards a new hemi.

I had something similar happen to a car of mine. The insurance company totaled the car. Under the seats were expensive electronics like ECU, ABS, etc. The adjuster said once wet, they would never be reliable, and could fail at any time.

I also know a guy that had his grand cherokee flooded. He replaced the ECU with a used unit and drove it for several more years.
