I hate the 15” wheels I have on my TJ now and love the look of the factory Moabs. I know the downsides to a 16” wheel but that’s not what this thread is about.

Anyways been cruising the interwebz for some of the factory wheels and came across a set of five Moabs with almost brand new 33” Duratracs on it, less than 2000 miles.

He’s asking $1200. I think I could talk him down to $900-1000.

Just curious . . . why the dislike for 15" wheels ?
Hoping you find the right wheels for your TJ :giggle:
I don’t dislike 15” wheels, I just dislike the specific type currently on my TJ. And my tires are probably down to 30% tread. So if I need new tires soon and want to change wheels I might as well go to the rubicon wheels, I think they look “right” on a TJ.

There are alot listed on Offerup. At least here in CA. And CL. I'm not totally up on all the Rubicon wheels. Are you talking TJ Rubicons or JK Rubicons? There are alot of JK Rubicons listed for very reasonable prices. But I think there are different designs. Because some go for like a grand or more. And others I see going for $500-$600?. Of course you have to use an adapter/spacer.

Those are the two best places for used. Or NOS that someone took off when they bought a new Jeep and upgraded. I put stock JK 5 spoke (moabs? IDK.) wheels on my TJ for $300 NOS 2017 rims and new tires. And $100 in spacers. That's the most economical way to go. You can also get new AEV Pintler rims for $809 on ebay. Those are pretty sweet rims. But then you have to find tires.

I know where theres a set of AEV Bridgers with tires for $500. But they're in CA.

Why not get the Quadratec replica Moab wheels (they are called Mambas).

They look identical to a Moab but in a 15" size. Like yourself, I'm a sucker for the factory Moab wheels, and the ones Quadratec sells are very nice!

Yes, I meant the Factory TJ Rubicon 16' wheels. I'm in New Mexico where you can't find anything and found the TJ Rubicon wheels I have now by luck. You'd think in New Mexico there would be Jeep stuff everywhere, but I usually have to look out of state. I still need to get a matching spare.

I 5 rubicon wheels for $350, tires have maybe 10k on them. They are 17” JK wheels though.
There are deals out there, you just need to low ball people. People that don’t know any better don’t view “stock” wheels with any value.

My thing is with only 2000 miles those tires alone are worth more than he’s asking. I’d be hard-pressed to find a good used set of five. If I can talk him down 200-300 more I think that would be a good buy. Since I’ll be in the market for tires soon anyway. And to clarify they’re the TJ rubicon wheels, not JKs. I’m personally not a fan of the 17” wheels.

And I’d be avoiding mount and balance fees, which are ridiculous where I live.

If $1000 is your top offer, don't haggle/dicker over the phone. Instead, show up with cash ready to buy or walk away.

I like the factory Moab wheels not only because of aesthetics, but replacements are affordable and easy to find.

The reason the JK moabs are so cheap is that there are a ton of used ones on the market. So many people bought JK's and replaced the wheels and tires. That there is a glut of them being sold. And now they are a couple models older. There is a set of 2017 moabs on offerup for $360 with new Goodyear Wrangler tires. HArd to beat that if all you need is good rims and tires. The new tires weren't off road tires though. Just street tires. But good street tires.

Like I said. I did mine for $300. Just to get a good set of tires and rims on my Jeep. As the tires that came on it were rotted. This allowed me to save up for a set of AEV Pintlers. And I'll still probably be able to get $300 out of the JK's.

I personally like the newer JK wheels with the two tone. Sorry I don't know all the wheel names. The sort of honeycomb ones? Those seem to either run $1200 or $800 or lower. I can't tell the difference. But there are literally so many of them for sale. I could see being able to get a good deal on them. They can't be selling fast. As there are to many on the used market. It's probably the MTR tires on them that make them seem like they are worth so much. But bottom line is supply and demand. There is to much of a supply. So deal accordingly.

Those Quadratec Mambas in 15" are pretty sweet though. Especially in black. NEver seen those before. Nice post Chris. I like those almost as much as a set of Pintlers.

And to the OP. I don't know how close you are to a larger metropolitan city. Like say Phoenix. But you'll find alot more in that area.

If you search offerup nationwide you'll see a ton of used Jeep rims and tires. Or if you search any larger metro area. They are literally all over the place. Should be pretty easy to haggle on those. As there are so many. I'm sure they take a long time to sell. Or just keep looking for a guy that just wants them gone. And doesn't need top dollar cash.

Did you see the chrome Bridgers on AEV Forums?

Well guys I did it! Gotta say I like the look of the 17” wheel a lot more than I thought. Finally got rid of those ugly American racing wheels. I also weighed both wheels and these new ones are almost 15lbs lighter each.

Your thread and these pics just convinced me to keep my JK moabs on. It looks great!
