Planning on converting the rear drums to disc on my 2004 TJ. Seen some kits out there but also have read articles on using older Cherokee parts for the conversion. Anybody out there ever do this set up?. Any ideas would be appreciated..Thanks

I’m planing to do a rear brake conversion when I go to replace my front rotors, and I want to do EBC rotors and pads all around, but I’m not able to find any specific rear rotor kits from EBC. I don’t know if I need a full kit or just some good quality lines and good calipers.

Im not entirely sure what calipers you are using, but wouldn't an 06 Rubicon disc work as far as application goes?

I read somewhere that a big brake kit is better than a rear drum to disc conversion if you want more stopping power.

I’m not sure, but I imagine it would. I’ll have to look up if the bolt pattern for the rear is any different for the front since I can’t find a rear EBC kit.
Front and rear bolt patterns on the 97-06 TJ is the same 5x4.5. The TJ Dana 30, TJ Dana 35, and TJ Dana 44 all share the same bolt pattern.

Hey look at that, I look up big brake kit and a kit from EBC shows up. Now I just have to check if they have any for Jeeps
What are you trying to do? Why do you want to upgrade your brakes? What issues are you having with your current brake setup?

Answering these questions with details will help us point you in the direction of the most appropriate solution.

My Jeep has around 130,000 miles on it and I don’t know now that last time the brakes have been serviced. Currently I’m starting to get vibration from my braking and I also want to upgrade the rear drums to discs, I’d go to replace just the front pads but I don’t want to bed good brakes into a crappy rotor. Same goes for rear drums.

Blackmagicbrakes.com for your front brakes. Either refresh your drums or spend the money on a rear disc swap. I don't think EBC makes rear brakes if you can't find them.

Unless you have done lots of drive train mods, why change? Off-roading? My 02 has plenty of stopping power. Not criticizing, asking out of curiosity.

I like what Black Magic Brakes offer as well I might go with them.
To be honest, BMB are normally a solution to a problem. Bigger tires need more stopping power is a great example.

If anything, I would suggest rebuilding your factory calipers, bleeding/flushing your brakes, installing new pads (BMB sells pads that have great reviews) installing new rotors on the front, hats on the rear, and calling it done.

Brakes can be expensive to upgrade and if you dont need it, spend the money on something you will get your monies worth out of.

You wont see any performance upgrades from a drum to disc swap in the rear, its strictly a convenience upgrade.
