Has your TJ ever been towed home?

Been on a flat bed once, the CPS was giving me issues on the way to the airport one morning. I made it to long term parking (barely), and when i got back a week later it stumbled and missed until I was about 10 miles from home. On the interstate at 1am it finally died and would not fire back up. $200 for the tow and State Farm refunded me for the tow. A few weeks earlier it was showing the same symptoms and I had it towed back home just a couple miles by a buddy and a tow strap.

My wife and I are members of AAA but I am not entirely sure what our program is...need to look into that is for sure.

I actually called AAA last week after I was having some clutch problems but the tow truck driver was able to get my Jeep to shift again so I was able to drive it home. I’ve had AAA premier since July and it’s worth the peace of mind. I got it after I had an overheating issue back in May driving home from Rausch creek. So that’s two anxiety provoking times I was fortunate to limp my Jeep home in my year of ownership. I’m still a little reserved about taking the Jeep on long road trips due to my fear of being road side stranded and needing a tow outside the 100 miles of AAA coverage.

Same as @tworley, I had a CPS giving me trouble and it capped out on my way to work one morning. Waited over an hour for the truck, never got it to start. Once he rolled it off the back in my driveway and left, I hit the switch and it fired right up. I was kind of bent

One other time I was driving along and suddenly I thought the damn thing hit an IED. The top ripped open, glass busted, scared the hell out of me. I pulled into the median to look at the damage and a guy stopped to ask if I was ok. He showed me where a tractor trailer on the other side of the highway caught a low hanging cable. It snapped and wrapped around the TJ like a giant whip. Trashed the jeep. I was lucky to have been unscathed.

Haven’t had my Tj long enough for that but I have towed my 84 Cj8 home several times, in fact it had a quasi permanent tow bar on it, just in case.

My idler pulley seized up a couple of weeks ago going 70 mph on the interstate, threw the belt. It instantly ran hot throwing antifreeze out the front of the hood. It bent and stretched the pulley bolt and the pulley cut the water tube coming off the water pump and into the ac bracket. Had it towed about 10 miles to my mechanic. AAA to the rescue again! Finding a bracket locally was a pain, it only fits 97-98 Wranglers and Dodge Dakotas.

Mine goes on a trailer anytime I wheel it more than an hour away. That way if I or someone else with us breaks down I’ve al got my truck and trailer.

Two tows in two weeks.
My re-geared front axle ate it's pinion bearing. Luckily still under warranty(just below the first 500 miles)

My fuel pump gave out. Such an annoying thing to have go out. It gave no warning and just gave up

I also recommend the 200 or higher tow from AAA. Saved me when my pinion bearing went out. 160 mile tow without having to pay out of my pocket.

I like the fact that the Wrangler can be flat towed, no trailer necessary. I didn't expect to need to do it only a few months after I bought it but it worked well.

A few months back I turned the key trying to get home from the store and nothing?

After fiddling around a bit I decided the starter or solenoid was the most likely culprit, no one around to give me a push so I rang the the Aussie vertion of AAA, but over here for 100 bucks a year the RACV try to diagnose and fix your issue before towing 100k for free. So I call em and this guy rolls up and says, "Yep, It's your starter motors gone bung, 100% mate". Turns out I shouldn't have listened. It was the actuator in the steering column so all I needed do was take a long screwdriver and short out the solenoid terminal to the frame and I could have driven home, Instead I got an unnecessary tow.

Do I feel stupid? Yes I do because I let myself rely on a service I pay for to know what they are doing in their respective fields instead of properly troubleshooting the issue myself, silly me.

I've had my 2006 LJ towed once when the catalytic converter under the skid plate plugged up. Because I tow a travel trailer with it, I have AAA premium and it didn't cost me a dime.

Once, so far. A few months ago my radiator split at the top and started spewing coolant during a nice busy evening commute. AAA to the rescue. Flatbed home, new radiator in the next day.

Once in 13 years, and technically it didn't need to be. I had it towed home after it wouldn't start after running some errands. Turns out it just needed a new battery.

Idler pulley went out and ripped the serpentine belt causing me to loose power steering and water pump. I had to have it towed to a shop for repair.

When I bought TJ #2 a few weeks ago, I took it to get inspected. Passed the state inspection then proceeded to die as i was pulling out of their parking lot.

Another Jeeper (thanks Jeremy) pulled up and we spent about an hour trying to start it. No luck. He pulled the TJ back up to the parking lot and then I had AAA tow it home.

Turns out the fuel pump died. Replaced it in the driveway and we are back up and running.

Never had a vehicle die on me like that within 15 miles of owning it.

Mine has been towed once, primarily for precaution. In retrospect it was unnecessary and it would have gotten me home just fine with moderate driving. I was early in my ownership and mostly freaked out.
